Introduction

In this thread I wish to establish the prelude novel series of Frieren as a Secondary Canon adaptation officially commissioned and supervised by the original creator, whose original content is useable when non-contradicted by the Primary Canon.

Supervision

Consistency

The novel connects and stays consistent to the manga series throughout, including:
  • Fern’s backstory recounting Heiter’s intervention to save her
  • Heiter establishing the boulder test for Fern to be declared a fully fledged mage
  • Stark first saving the village from the dragon
  • Lawine and Kanne training together at the Magic Academy
  • Aura’s encounter and defeat by Himmel
  • Frieren’s flashy spell display against Aura’s puppet army
  • The recounting of the establishment of Flamme’s thousand year barrier spell
  • Flamme only ever teaching Frieren how to fight
  • Frieren returning to the Royal Capital for the black dragon horn in time for the meteor shower
And Kanehito Yamada made note that they were impressed with Mei Hachimoku‘s “depth of understanding of the setting and characters”.

Conclusion

As an original author-commissioned work supervised and illustrated by the same pair that wrote the manga that remains consistent and faithful to the original work, the prequel novel adaptations should be recognized as Secondary Canon whose original non-contradicted content is usable as opposed to Tertiary Canon (which is for adaptations not overseen by the author).
