Say, I'll admit I'm pretty bad when it comes to stuff like higher dimensions or non straightforward physics, lol, but I thought it was worth asking.
Well, when working on some unrelated Final Fantasy stuff I noticed the following things regarding the Lifestream from Final Fantasy VII:
At first I didn't think much of any of this, but I came across some stuff in several profiles where the justifications for Infinite or Immesurable speed mentioned "movement that trascends space and time", "capable of moving in a dimension beyond space and time", "can reach another realm crossing the different space-time", etc. Now, I am not saying it's the same or anything, I could be heavily misunderstanding everything, but that's the reason I thought I'd ask if this is worth looking into.
Thnaks in advance as always.
Well, when working on some unrelated Final Fantasy stuff I noticed the following things regarding the Lifestream from Final Fantasy VII:
- More than a river of energy it's actually an afterlife, a different realm altogether that's made up from the spiritual energy from the souls of those who die and return to the Planet. The souls of those who die are assimilated in the collective, and carried wherever the Planet decides. However, some exceptional cases have such strong spirits they can mantain their individuality.
- Among the many differences with the living world, time and space are conceptually different, more specifically they are commented to be meaningless and arbitrary. In contrast, the living world has linear time, which runs in "parallel" with the Lifestream.
- It's mentioned that in the Lifestream you can move anywhere the spiritual energy reaches (that is, the Lifestream itself) in "the blink of an eye"/"in a heartbeat". However, most souls are simply assimilated in the current and carried around by the Planet, but there are cases such as Aerith and Sephiroth who remain as themselves and effectively come and go as they please, in this "instantaneous" way, despite the warped space-time. Sephiroth in particular can do this despite the Planet actively trying to reabsorb him.
- Both Aerith and Sephiroth mention they could just manifest from the Lifestream into the living world, despite the different space-time. They didn't do it from different reasons (Aerith decided against it, Sephiroth was incomplete due to having to mutilate his own spirit)
- This would apply to spirits, and that's kind of an interesting point. Sephiroth describes the physical existence as incomparably more limited than being a spirit and Aerith mentions that after death, the spirit is released to perceive the true nature of things and senses achieve their real state.
- And finally, in Advent Children, Sephiroth actually is a spirit when he fought Cloud. His resurrection isn't really him regaining a physical body as much as his spirit becoming "complete" to go to the living world again (it's pretty cryptic how exactly, but my guess is that the Jenova cells were simply a way to make up the memories he lost when he had to discard parts of his spirit before).
