I'm planning on nuking Australia, how strong would that be? Is it calced? Assume its just a statement of "has power to destroy Australia in one blow" without further context

assuming explosion with how you described it.
  • Air blast radius (near-total fatalities) Yield: Y = ((x/0.28)^3)/1000 with Y in megatons of TNT and x the radius in km.
google says Australia has a diameter of almost 4000, lazy and can't be asked measuring so we'll use it.

((2000/0.28)^3)/1000= 364431486.88 or 1.524781341106e+24 J (High 6-B Large Country).

Now if it's not nuclear in nature we times the results by 0.5, which then gives us

182215743.44 or 7.6239067e+23 (High 6-B Large Country).

Google Maps show me just around the 4075-4080 km mark. Average is 4077.5 km. Half this is 2038.75 km or 2038750 m

For a ground based burst...

  • W = R^3*((27136*P+8649)^(1/2)/13568-93/13568)^2, where W is the yield in tons of TNT, R is the radius in meters, and P is the shockwave pressure in bars, where we generally use 1.37895 bars or 20 psi of pressure. For this specific formula, there is no need to divide the result by 2.
W = 2038750^3*((27136*1.37895+8649)^(1/2)/13568-93/13568)^2= 6.8104755e+14 tons of TNT or 2.849502949e+24 Joules or 681.04755 teratons of TNT (High 6-B, Large Country level+)

The OP is worded poorly and is worded in such a way to cause controversy. Wanting to find calculations for educational purposes is fair game, but the way people say they literally want to nuke a certain country/continent is actually something that violates our rules on the wiki.

Anyway, question's been answered, you wanna close it?
