Introduction

This will be a very short thread, basically establishing just what the soul encompasses in the setting. Let's get into it.

The Soul

The driving force of the events of the story are the soul arts, the act of using souls to learn magic and empower one's self. These souls are also referred to as the essence of a being. It is repeatedly stated that magic is derived from the soul, specifically of a demon. Said souls can not only empower one's vitality and other physical parameters, but also carry physical traits as magic within them, like the defensive prowess of the Tower Knight.

The soul is also synonymous with the mind. It is the essence of thought, latent in all living things and when man was first granted a soul, with it came clarity. When loses the soul, they lose their mind as well, something reiterated with the miners of Stonefang, whom without souls have no thoughts of their own.

Thus, resisting harmful effects on one's soul should also count towards resistance to those effects on one's mind and vice versa.
