He's just lost half his people alongside his best(?) friend and his brother. There's an entire scene with Rocket showing how serious he is in IW, he does make jokes but they're used to mask his pain.
This mindset and his weapon make him extremely dangerous, and considering how easily he amputated and decapitated Thanos, I'm willing to bet that Stormbreaker will at the very least be crippling if he gets a clean shot, which will happen more likely than not - this is well before he got fat, after all.
