I know. He needs to use it immediately because it only takes a couple seconds to unleash the gas and he can Absorb things on contact, also in a few seconds.

He actually can absorb Non-Organic Material. He does it all the time, plus Elizabeth Greene could infect Non-Organic Material as well and he has all of her powers on top of his own.

That's fine. Still doesn't stop the fact that with Speed equal he can just dodge them and then absorb them, especially with his new army of Blacklight Infected that follow his command and can spread the virus even more. Even if they did hit him, he would probably splatter then regenerate while consuming the bot that got covered in his Biomass and Blood. Hell that might just make him durable enough to pull off another attempt at this without splattering considering he adds strength from everything he absorbs. Not sure how much but it's explicitly stated he gets stronger with every thing he consumes.

kang is not an idoit he will stop summoning the army once he sees absorbing them and pull out him anti matter shield

Well if Mercer's Gas Reaches him before he pulls up the shield, which it should considering it's his starting move against people who aren't infected already in this version, then he just gets Kang under his control. And I really doubt Kang would think to pull out his Shield for what looks like a Smokescreen, albeit weirdly colored.
