For example, if an author says that a character from his work is incapable of shattering planets, even though it has destroyed galaxies on-screen, we will always go with the latter, rather than the former. The statement need to be consistent with what has been revealed within the fictional franchise itself. Otherwise, it will be considered invalid."

So we do use it sometimes, but it is considered secondary to what is actually established within the story itself.

I dont think kirito can do much now. he can deflect goji's attacks using barriers but nothing else. Godzilla has loads of immortalities, transformations and power-ups and his energy field that protects him from attacks that are stronger than his. goji can literally just time stop and then do whatever the fudge he wants. he has the occilatory wave that destroys stuff on molecular level, his red spiral ray, loads of different manipulations.

btw if goji wanted to set up his defenses he could also use the green item to turn invulnerable and shoot down kirito.

i think we cannot aply "in-character" for big g because he is composite
