Goku isn't that much skilled at this point either. Pilaf Saga Goku was before he trained under Master Roshi, so he only have little fighting moves that he remembered from Grandpa Gohan and a very unmastered version of the Kamehameha that he saw Roshi doing

Sonic has a very significant AP advantage, and the power pole doesn't negate durability so it wouldn't be any more affective on Sonic

Worst case scenario, Sonic just uses the Rings and BFRs Goku to Mushroom Valley

Goku at this point of the story isn't the martial artist that we know today. In the Pilaf Saga he was more like a wild kid that didn't had any exposure to civilization and his fighting style is generally more like a brawler rather than a martial artist. Goku only learned to refine his techniques and learn how to properly do his moves when he trained under Roshi, and before then all Goku had was what little fighting techniques Gohan taught him before he died

Sonic actually do have some impressive control over his skills even in the movie, so it's not by that much

I don't doubt he likely has a skill advantage, but Goku outskilling enough to overcome the AP advantage Sonic has while using Goku in the Pilaf saga is dubious.
