Saint Seiya Discussion Thread (IV)

Time Oddysey, a Saint seiya comic book that was made very intentionally to be canon. It has flashbacks which directly contradict the history of the world of Rerise of Poseidon, so Rerise must be an alt timeline

Bro why are we invoking a primordial being to destroy a meteor
Is Tartarus still considered a being in Saint Seiya?.

I remember that in Episode G, when Aiolos mentions the myth of Typhon, he suggests that it could be a being and the father of this god; however, Kurumada in Next Dimension and Shiori in The Lost Canvas, and even Okada in Episode G Assassin and Requiem, seem to present it simply as a place. Therefore, it’s possible that a retcon was applied to the franchise regarding Tartarus, or that what Aiolos mentioned was just a myth within his own universe (since myths also exist in the world of Saint Seiya, some of which may be true while others are simply false).

I’d like to point out that this feat of opening a path to Tartarus required 6 Arch Mariners, and Nemesis, and was a miracle
The Sword of Judgment was already capable of opening paths to Tartarus; we see this when Nemesis’s wife punished herself in Chapter 15. Therefore, I believe that Nemesis only needed the Cosmo of the Mariners to open a path to Tartarus in outer space and for the portal to be large enough to destroy the meteorite.

Both should be alternate timelines because they're both mid
That sounds like a perfectly valid reason. :ROFLMAO: 🤣

What will you do Stek if Rerise is blatantly shown in the final volume of TO?

Am I able to create pages for Episode G Assassin or is it not canon?
This page answers your question.

As for the Episode G pages on this site, there are entries for some characters from this story such as Pontus, Uranus, Cronus and Gaia, although they are quite outdated with respect to the newer information. However, some relevant characters are still missing, such as Shura, the protagonist of Episode G Assassin, who really deserves his own page, since he is a superior version of the character and probably one of the most powerful Gold Saints in the entire franchise.

What will you do Stek if Rerise is blatantly shown in the final volume of TO?
That’s a lie; the ending of TO and Tenkai-hen will only be connected to Saint Mariya, the only one of the more recent spin-offs that will be part of the main universe.

There's a drive where I'm reading SS.

It basically has almost all of SS's works and all the volumes.

Including volumes 1-3 of the Poseidon thing.

But everything is in Brazilian Portuguese.

G profiles have enough groundwork now to be made. The scaling does need to be looked at carefully though

It seems that in Saint Seiya Awakening a skin for Shaka was added, which, according to what was mentioned on this X account, has an interesting description.

[During his ascetic practice, Shaka sought enlightenment, questioning the heavens from the highest realms to the deepest hells.
The doubts in his heart could not be resolved with words, so he used the mountains as his path, the clouds as veins, and the wind as his guide.
He found a pure spring, where lotuses bloomed in abundance.
The sins of the world were like ink that, once purified, transformed into lotuses.
The three thousand worlds, with all their innumerable phenomena, are contained within this pond.
Shaka sat serenely by the spring and, suddenly, attained enlightenment.
He is the one who contemplates the landscape, yet at the same time exists within that very plane.]

Does anyone play this video game?

I don’t, because my phone can’t run it, but I wonder if it has any interesting feats and what the story is about.

Anyone remember ND chronos event? Or gold God Cloths? I heard they had some OP bangers in SSA

A bit of information while you wait for something more interesting to happen in this franchise.

Are the Cosmo Special (Hypermyth, data sheets, etc.) and the Taizen considered canon sources of information?

I’ve often seen this question within the fandom, so I think it would be useful to clarify some details about it.

The short answer: Yes.

Cosmo Special
is a magazine published by Shueisha (the publisher where Saint Seiya was serialized) on August 10, 1988. It contained information about the Saint Seiya universe, such as character data sheets and descriptions of characters’ techniques (up to that point in the manga, which had only recently begun the Poseidon Saga), as well as the controversial Hypermyth.

Cosmo Special (translated into Brazilian Portuguese; I have never been able to find the Japanese version of that magazine):

As we can see in the data sheets, they include exclusive elements that would later be mentioned in the manga, such as Dohko’s name, which was mentioned for the first time in the Cosmo Special.

However, what truly supports the idea that this was a reliable source of information about the Saint Seiya universe are the words of Masami Kurumada himself. At the time, he mentioned the publication of Cosmo Special and stated that it was an important work that would reveal various details about the Saint Seiya universe.

In Weekly Shōnen Jump #31 (1988), published in June, Kurumada said the following:
'The complete version of the long-awaited personal data for each character will be published in the Saint Seiya Cosmo Special, which will be released on July 27!!'

In Weekly Shōnen Jump #32, published in July 1988, the master said the following:
'In the “Saint Seiya Special,” which will go on sale on the 27th, there will be an interview they conducted with me. I’m eager to see its contents!!

In Weekly Shōnen Jump #33, published in July 1988, Kurumada said the following:
'The movie will finally be released on the 23rd!! Please look forward to it, along with the “Saint Seiya Special,” which will go on sale on the 27th!

In Weekly Shōnen Jump #34, published in July 1988, the author said the following:
'The personal data of Seiya and the others will have a definitive version that I personally supervised, which you will be able to see in the “Saint Seiya Special,” coming out soon!!'

In Weekly Shōnen Jump #35, published in July 1988, the author said the following:
“There were some errors in the data that appeared in the ‘Saint Seiya Anime Special.’ Take a look at the correct data that will be published in the ‘Saint Seiya Cosmo Special’ on the 27th.”

In Weekly Shōnen Jump #36, published in August 1988, Kurumada said the following:
'You still haven’t bought the Saint Seiya Cosmo Special?! It’s a collector’s edition to understand everything about Saint Seiya!!'

In Weekly Shōnen Jump #38, published in August 1988, the master said the following:
'On the Saints’ map that appeared in the Saint Seiya Cosmo Special, the location of Shun’s training site is incorrect. The correct information can be found on page 108!!'

Therefore, I don’t think there is any real doubt about the validity of this work. Literally, Kurumada mentioned that the Cosmo Special was a collector’s edition meant to understand everything about Saint Seiya, and he even pointed out a small printing error that appeared in that publication, which indicates that he read and reviewed that work in detail.

The Taizen (Saint Seiya Encyclopedia) is a databook published by Kurumada in 2002. Unlike Cosmo Special, it includes information about characters, techniques, and the lore of the Saint Seiya universe up to the Hades Saga.

Regarding the validity of this work:

In the first pages of the Taizen we can see, in large letters, that it is supervised by Kurumada.

In addition, some of the original information mentioned in this work has later appeared in other works within the franchise. For example, the Altair Cloth appears as a Silver Cloth in The Lost Canvas, and the Crateris Cloth also appears as a Silver Cloth in Next Dimension.

A notable detail about the Crateris Cloth is that in the Taizen it is described as having healing powers, which was the first time this ability was mentioned in the franchise.

The Silver Cloth of the Crateris (Cup) constellation. According to the few accounts that have been preserved and passed down, this Cloth is said to have had the power to heal wounded Saints.
This ability would later be referenced again in the early chapters of Next Dimension, where this Cloth appears.
VpTcj3y.jpeg

As I said, both works have the backing and supervision of Kurumada, therefore they were reliable sources of information.

However, I need to clarify one detail. Even though these are reliable sources, we must consider the fact that they date from 1988 and 2002, so the information in those works may now be somewhat outdated. Kurumada continues to work on the franchise to this day, and as we have seen, he is not exempt from making changes to the franchise or the lore of his work (you know… Kuru-retcons).

For example, nowadays Kurumada has given greater importance to the Holy War against Hades, leaving the other enemies of Athena as comparatively lesser threats. Hades is the main enemy of Athena, and fighting the battle against this god is the reason why the Saints descend to Earth to fight alongside their goddess.

We can see this, for example, in the fact that Poseidon, and especially Ares, have lost the relevance they had in the Hypermyth from Cosmo Special. In that work, it was even mentioned that the battle against Ares was the one in which the largest number of Saints participated. However, this was later changed in the 30th Anniversary Artbook (published on October 21, 2016), where it is now stated that it was the 18th century Holy War in which the largest number of Saints participated, totaling 79 Saints.
y16mDri.jpeg

The First Holy War was a struggle for Athena’s land against Poseidon, the god of the sea, who took advantage of the interval during Zeus’s absence in the mythological era. It is said that from that moment on, Athena granted the Sacred Armors to young warriors.
Holy Wars take place approximately every 250 years, and the previous Holy War was the battle between Athena and Hades, which occurred 243 years ago. On that occasion, 79 Saints participated—the largest number recorded up to that point—and the only survivors were Dōko (the Old Master) and Shion.
It is said that in every Holy War, the vast majority of the Saints lose their lives.
Therefore, the Holy War against Hades is currently the greatest battle of the Saints, and the most difficult one for them.

This is not illogical considering that the army of Hades is one of the few that possesses warriors who are truly a challenge even for the power of the Gold Saints (the twelve strongest warriors that exist). Not to mention the Three Judges, whose power is monstrous compared to the rest of the armies, and whose strength would even stand out among the Gold Saints.

We could literally say:
Wyvern’s finger >>>>> Pegasus Tenma >> Papillon Myu >> Poseidon’s army

Even so, we can still see that a large part of the information from those works remains present in the franchise. For example, the Cloths were forged in a battle against Poseidon and his army, a fact first mentioned in the Hypermyth and later referenced in the 30th Anniversary Artbook, as well as in works like Time Odyssey and, I believe, also in The Lost Canvas.

Likewise, the origin of the Black Cloths as prototypes of the Cloths is still an element present in the franchise. This is mentioned in the 30th Anniversary Artbook and in Episode G Requiem. Additionally, Death Queen Island as a remnant of the continent Mu (Atlantis) was also mentioned in Time Odyssey and the 30th Anniversary Artbook.

One of the most important points is Ikki as the first bearer of the Phoenix Cloth, since no previous bearer is known. This was mentioned in the Hypermyth and later referenced in Time Odyssey, where a legend about this Cloth is described, stating that no one had been able to wear it.

This is also something that Alquié and Dollen confirmed with Kurumada and Kurumada Pro (Kurumada’s working team). They were told that there were no plans for any previous bearer of that armor, and that if they were going to include one, they would have to provide some explanation for why that person had been erased from history.

Additionally, recently in Volume 1 of Saintia Shō Memories, in the pages describing certain elements included in the volume, the description of Death Queen Island suggests that this Cloth had not had a bearer, since no one had managed to leave that island as a Saint. It is also indicated that some of the Black Saints on that island are aspirants or individuals attempting to obtain that Cloth.

aR3q6yz.jpeg

The “Black Saints” have established their own territory on Death Queen Island, an island known as hell.

This is the name given to those who use the fists of Saints to satisfy their own desires and have been abandoned by Athena.

It is said that the Phoenix Cloth is located on Death Queen Island, and since ancient times it was one of the training grounds for becoming a Saint. However, no one has ever managed to become a Saint and leave that place alive.

Perhaps, because of such a cruel environment, some eventually fell and became Black Saints.

In addition, in one part of the island, girls called “Black Ladies” have formed their own society and, maintaining some kind of relationship with the Black Saints, seem to coexist with them.

Until recently, the island was under the rule of a man named Jango, and due to the atrocious nature of his actions, it was rumored that the Sanctuary would eventually intervene.

However, later someone defeated Jango and apparently now leads the Black Saints as their new chief…

This information is probably not of any importance on VS battles Wiki, considering that these works are used as a source of information here; however, it is always good to clarify certain details.

Izo Okada (administrator of Kurumada’s blog) published a preview of Chapter 1 of Saint Seiya Tenkai-Hen on Kurumada’s blog.

He also added that this first season will consist of six chapters; therefore, this confirms that this manga will not have a regular release schedule and will instead be published in seasons like Next Dimension. This is so damn frustrating. 🤬 🤬 🤬

Today, on the official Akita Shoten website, it was announced that Volume 14 of the Final Edition will be published on July 18, 2026.

This is the volume that marks the beginning of the Hades Arc in the manga. Therefore, it will be interesting to see the changes and additions in this part of the story.

Yeah it’s frustrating, but the man is also really old and drawing that much is difficult

With only a few days left until the first chapter of Tenkai-hen is published, spoilers for the chapter have already started to appear.

Spoilers for the first chapter of Tenkai-hen:

Memory of Disappearance
Saori, descending from the Sanctuary, notices that her memories are once again beginning to fade.
Meanwhile, Ker, the evil goddess, appears in the void that was once the Underworld.
Upon finding the Surplice of the Earth Dog Star, she brings Jean de Orthros back to life.
Ker had devised a flawless strategy before the battle to lead Hades’ army to victory and fell into a deep sleep, confident of success.
However, upon awakening, she learns from Jean that Hades’ army suffered a crushing defeat, and both the Underworld and Elysion have completely vanished.
The restoration of the Underworld would take at least a thousand years, and she cannot understand why she alone remained while Jean was able to be revived.
It is then that Ker realizes that Athena has disappeared.
If Athena is absent, the goddess's power ceases to take effect, allowing Hades' army to resurface and eventually take over the Earth's surface.
On the surface, Seiya appears before Saori to give her a hat…
(To be continued)

Well, according to this spoiler, it seems there is no trace of Hades in the Underworld after the battle against Athena; therefore, this could mean that he is indeed dead (at least temporarily).

The Underworld is disappearing; according to the spoiler, it has completely vanished. However, in the images we can still see that this place is still being destroyed, devoured by a strange space-time distortion similar to a black hole.

The most interesting part of the spoiler is that it confirms that the Specters are immortal and can be brought back to life through the power of the gods of the Underworld—a concept that had already been mentioned in multiple spin-offs and official guides, but this is the first time it has been stated in a manga drawn by Kurumada.

Additionally, according to the spoiler, it seems the reason they cannot be revived is Athena, since only now that she is weakened can Ker bring a Specter back to life. However, it is not clarified whether this is connected to the rosary or whether Athena’s power itself is what prevents them from returning to life. If it is the latter, it would confirm that:
Chad Saori >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Virgin Sasha (The Lost Canvas).

We’ll have to wait for the chapter to confirm whether what this spoiler says is true, and if it is, we might get better context for what’s described.

Its also cool to finally have 100% confirmation that Hades' Underworld was in fact destroyed. We don't really rely on it for ratings nowadays like we used to years ago, but it's nice to see that Hades the builder arguments finally got debunked by Kurumada himself.
