Gemerl still has the Emerl data, it won't matter how much different their personality, motivation, they live for tomorrow and staying with love one's is a good arc. Even better, Gemerl not knowing who's Emerl/gizoid's is, means he's following life other dreams for.

Nobody is saying they hate Sonic having a heroic side and wants him to be a mass murderer. There's a balance that can be struck, you can have Sonic acknowledge there will be people like him who will never change and have him kill some of his foes, but you can also have the opposite where he can see people who have a sympathetic side and have the capacity for change, perhaps realize there was a misunderstanding somewhere, and want to save them.
