Death Note CRT: Adding some much needed abilities

The Death Note pages are severely lacking. I've done my best to add feats, but they're still missing a lot of feats, especially poor Near with his lone Genius Intelligence ability lol. Let's fix that.

General Revisions

Analytical Prediction - Light, L, and maybe Near qualify as analytical predictors on the more mundane end for being able to accurately predict events far in advance. L as a child was wildly successful on the stock market and he could later predict some of Light's moves (such as him having to meet with Kira #2, Near is a "maybe" since he only really has such a feat with Matsuda's Theory that he had predicted Light's plan, and Light predicted Near's original plan months in advance

Information Analysis - L, Light, and Near should all qualify.

Enhanced Senses - Word of God states that Near and other high ranking Wammy's House students have the ability to parallel process as shown here, allowing them to equally dedicate attention across several streams of information (typically shown as TV or computer screens in the story). Note this is attributed to a "high brain capacity" and "analytical" ability by the author. Near, L, and likely Light should qualify. Light is a maybe since, while he's not a Wammy's student and isn't explicitly confirmed to have this ability, he should scale above random Wammy's students like Matt, does have at least as good brain capacity as Near and L (shown by his superior knowledge to L and equal knowledge to Near despite going to an ordinary school) and relative analytical ability to both (Light's plan involves him replicating Near's own thought process and he's shown matching L's analysis speed during the tennis scene. He is also shown to have equal creativity to L), and has various other instances showing high relativity to L

Beside that ability, both Light and L have good feats:

  • L noticed a change in Light's pupils from a crappy 2006 era monitor, he noticed a file Raye was carrying that no other detective caught
  • Light could see into a potato chip bag containing a crappy miniature TV out of the corner of his eye without alerting L and he saw Rem's microexpression out of the corner of his eye

Resistance to Information Analysis/Analytical Prediction - They all manage to get the jump on one another at points during the story. Memorably, L blindsided Light during the ceremony with a move he didn't anticipate and Light managed to remain completely calm such that L thought his facade gave no clues

Preparation - Self explanatory, but all three prepare various traps and have access to massive resources (Death Note or L's command over police agencies) that is above their base.

Near

Social Influencing - He is L and has access to all his resources, he's also shown to be a fairly good leader for the SPK, and he managed to subtly turn the Task Force against Light despite their loyalty.

L

Photographic Memory - L may have this ability due to narrative implication from Beyond Birthday. In the LABB novel, BB is shown reading through a book in seconds and recalling information accurately. While he did set up the book there and knew about it in advance, he is (both to the viewer and Naomi) apparently impersonating L in his genius, mannerisms, etc. While he's disguised as the detective "Rue Ryuzaki," the idea is that what he's doing are what L does. L eats suger so he eats sugar, L sits weirdly so he sits weirdly, etc, so this may indicate something L can do. The narrative device of the story is also that it's Mello essentially relating a story L told him,i.e. Mello memorized a long ass story that L also had in his memory. Near may also have this ability due to being able to accurately reconstruct Ryuk's face years later despite only meeting him once.

Accelerated Development - Should have this ability for superhuman learning speed, as shown by playing the stock market as an illiterate 6 year old or learning how to fly a helicopter through intuition.

Light Yagami

Accelerated Development - Should also have this ability for his superhuman learning. L off-handedly says that Light could also replicate his feat of flying a helicopter, Light was able to analyze the stock market and noticed a pattern between Yotsuba's stocks and some accidents which didn't fit Kira's MO (way harder than it sounds due to filtering for noise, time, etc.), he made an advanced voice modulator in a short period of time despite apparently having no background in engineering, and he adapted to L's job as the world's greatest detective in rapid time.

Hacking - He hacked into the police database in order to monitor the investigation

Minor Stealth Mastery - (Shown here. Despite L's superhuman senses, Light manages to write a name while sitting next to L and he was able to write names on little scraps around the house during his potato chip scheme, showing some skill in sleight of hand. WoG states he also may have been able to replace the notebook the task force had with a fake despite being under surveillance, though this is just a possibility)

Kiras

Resistance to Fear and Madness Manipulation and Superhuman Willpower - Ryuk states in the beginning that anyone who uses the notebook will experience pain and fear known only to the users of the notebook. This is affirmed again in the follow up story, where Light in a flashback states it requires great mental strength and an inferior copycat killer became catatonic. Light and Misa obviously qualify, and Near might as well if Matsuda's theory is true.

TLDR:

L: Enhanced Senses, Information Analysis, Analytical Prediction, Preparation, Accelerated Development, possibly Photographic Memory, Resistance to Info Analysis/ Analytical Prediction

Light: Enhanced Senses, Information Analysis, Analytical Prediction, Accelerated Development, Hacking, minor Stealth Mastery, Resistance to Info Analysis/Analytical Prediction

Near: Enhanced Senses, Information Analysis, Analytical Prediction, minor Stealth Mastery, Accelerated Development, Social Influencing, possibly Photographic Memory, possibly Resistance to Info Analysis, Analytical Prediction, Fear, and Madness manip

All DN users: Resistance to Fear and Madness Manip

Disagree with: Resistance to Fear and Madness Manipulation and Superhuman Willpower
is the "pain and fear known only to Death Note users" presented as a supernatural effect of the notebook?

Agree with rest.

Agree with re a supernatural effect. I should have included the scan. An off-screen Kira was rendered catatonic and suicidal, with Ryuk stating a human needs emotional strength and conviction to use the Death Note. Near was able to break him just by calling him a murderer.
It's heavily implied to be a supernatural effect. I should have included the scan, but another Kira becomes catatonic and suicidal after barely using it, with Ryuk stating it takes great strength and conviction. Near just calling him a murderer is enough to snap the new Kira's psyche and make him commit suicide.
While not directly related, Ryuk states after Soichiro dies that DN users are cursed with misfortune, which supports the notion of Kiras suffering some passive debuffs from using it.
