God of War Discussion Thread

What a bunch of fluff. Deborah Ann Woll is a terrific actress and the writing team behind it, particularly Ariel herself, has been in charge since at least GoW2 (Ignoring a brief departure in-between Ascension and 2018's release before she came back). If there's anyone I trust to write a great female protagonist, it's Ariel. Besides, Cory is still executive director, so nothing's gonna escape his oversight.

Also I seriously doubt this game took anywhere near 300 million to make, considering the heavy asset reuse and everything. That'd be the other flops not handled by SSM. This isn't a Marvel game where you are mandated to pay Disney massive royalty fees.

300 million
Ragnarok had a budget of ~$200 million, likely higher when factoring in the later PC version and DLC. While this one is PS5 only, it seems to have been in dev for a number of years, and Sony has increased pricing for all their consoles and everything seems to be more expensive. Very likely it's at minimum Ragnarok's budget unless this game is very small scale. They did so it's supposed to be parallel to 2018 & Ragnarok so it should be large.

The PC version didn't even make a dent, PC ports before Sony backpedalled only costed 5 million a piece as per the leaks.

In either case the name alone should carry it, and given the pedigree it's carrying right now I've no doubt it will be a smashing success.

But on a serious note I hope it doesn't flop

There's a lot of potential heck I'm sold alone by seeing other pantheons

It's just that the chuds and gooners typically have the edge when it comes to deciding a games fate (I think)
I doubt the game will flop. The chuds and gooners are just an extremely vocal minority; no one cares about what they say outside the internet because the real world doesn't function the way they say it does.

Like I typed before, don't be naive. You should somewhat care because these guys are within the "consumer base" of this specific franchise. If they're actually loud enough, they can directly impact the buying habits of customers. Best thing you can hope or find out is if they really are just an incredibly tiny portion of your consumers. If they are much larger, like what Bioware found out with Veilguard, you end up having almost entirely pure negative word of mouth surrounding your release.

Yes, I'm aware, that's where likely higher comes from since we're discussing costs of the game.

The sexist is telling me this? The chuds and gooners are a vocal minority that won't be playing the game at all; they exist only to ***** online because that's the only thing that gives their sad lives any meaning.

Bioware has fallen off quite a bit before Veilguard even came out, so I don't know why you're comparing that company with Santa Monica Studios which still has a lot of goodwill with its fanbase.

Chuds haven't influenced game sales in any meaningful way and they never will. We heard the same cope with Yotei before it outsold Tsushima on a smaller install base, we heard the same about Baldur's Gate 3 before it started breaking records, and we'll keep hearing the same well into the future.

Games rise and fall on their own merit because the average gamer isn't a Twitter user.

Sexist? Don't insult me. They can be a vocal minority, but a vocal minority can be larger depending on the consumer base of different games because every single game doesn't share the same proportionality of "chuds" and "gooners". I'd estimate that God of War has a greater portion of them than other franchises given its history.

This is why I typed don't be naive.

Calm down cuz it's not that serious 😭

Seriously? Criticizing God of War for having a female protagonist has nothing to do with sexism; it's simple: throughout the entire God of War franchise, the protagonist has always been Kratos, Of course there will be criticism about, "What is a woman doing in my game instead of Kratos?" Since I'm used to Kratos, if all the games had only one female protagonist from the first game onwards, nobody would be criticizing the game. It's like in Tomb Raider, the protagonist has always been Lara Croft; if you replaced her with an unknown man you've never even seen, you wouldn't like it, It's just criticism, and I understand how longtime fans are feeling, and I even found it interesting, but it's not sexist to criticize something.

Kratos ain't going away and if your first reaction to a game that dared to not have him as a protagonist is "what's a woman doing there!?" then you got some introspection to do. There are remakes and even more games coming, and Kratos's character arc is concluded in a far more satisfying manner than most other protagonists. You'll live, lol.

There ain't even much else to criticize, given it's only a 20 minute display. The combat looks like something I'll enjoy more than Norse saga. The godly designs are finally not "Nordic bum in leather and cotton". The lighting is a lot better too. The only thing I do get is the dialogue but seeing as most people already dropped that talking point, it's pretty clear why chuds are being weird about it.

God of War Ragnarok is awful, and along with God of War Chains of Olympus, this game featuring Kratos' wife looks better than the two worst games in the franchise.

Man, I just looked through some of the older fights Kratos was put in and they are hilarious in hindsight, back when shit like Demi-god Kratos vs Gojo was considered fair lol.

Gow's interview begins at 2:28 ( She mentions that she is expanding the larger universe, this might be useful for something.

It's in English with Portuguese subtitles.

Can GoW be 1A or atleast low 1A with everywhen?

It say a place beyond and a tracendent realm, where it simultaneously contain all time (including hypertimeline) and have no time. Isnt this textbook for BDE 2 and 3

Everywhen contain and surpass all time, and because of it transcendent's nature it also lack of time

I think archeus is 1A using some argument like that

Why is it called Everywhen? It feels like time might be a bit funny there.

I won’t spoil any of the surprises of things, but I think for us [the Everywhen] gave this concept of all time and no time and a place beyond the mortal realms. So it was kind of an internal kind of idea that just kind of stuck after a while.

Where did this quote come from?

We have extremely little information, so we'd have to wait for the game, but 1-A is automatically out, due to it still just being a quantitative difference.

Absolute highest it could ever go is Low 1-A, and even that's very doubtful. Most likely the Everywhen as a whole is gonna be like 7-D. And it remains to be seen if anyone even scales to it.

The amount of people hating on the game is absurd; it's a bit like God of War: Ascension. Even I, who am completely in love with the older games, didn't get this angry; I actually found it interesting, But if a game from that annoying kid comes out, I'm going to complain a lot.
As a Twitter user, it's mostly people being misogynstic assholes

I think 7D is more doubtful here, it seems it doesnt adding some new space nor time axis

More leading to it give no upgrade than 7D honestly

I saw that myself, people on Twitter are furious, but it's not such a bad game, even though it's different.
People forget that the past 2 God of War games were either based on affairs around Faye or events that transpired through what happened in the previous game, which, Ragnarok still gave her significance to the story. I guess some people find it more comfortable for their brain to be lodged half-way between their ass, but I beg to differ that it'd be more comfortable if you ask me..

Shouldn't Chaos have NEP erasure?
for being able to erase the void

I know Zeus is like the big God everyone expects to show up in the Everywhen, and like I'm 100% confident he will too. But personally I'm placing my bets on an Ares boss fight, complete with Ares mocking Faye and jokingly asking if Kratos killed his second wife too.

Also very interesting that Ariel said it'll likely be bigger than 2018/Ragnarok, I wasn't doubting it was gonna be a meaty game in the first but it's nice to have confirmation they're going all out for it. "May tell stories of other characters" is cool, seems like depending on this games success they'll do other characters too which I'd love to see. There's the obvious Atreus game, it'd be cool to have a game based on Hercules 12 labours, would love to have a Thor game.

Honestly, seeing that point about "finalizing" the game, I legit think that rumor of them waiting for a GTA release date confirmation is true lol.
