so lycaon does have the stat advantage here, being slightly stronger (though he can stack damage boosts/debuff puss to make him stronger), being able to boost his speed with his cybernetic legs, and, more importantly, having wayyyyyyy higher LS. puss should probably be more skilled, and his small size and acrobatics does certainly help when it comes to his agility and evasion, but lycaon's a skilled fighter in his own right, and likely smart enough to be able to catch puss off guard, especially given his more calm and collected personality compared to puss' more showboaty nature (ik puss can also lock in during fights but he does tend to be arrogant and show off more often than not, especially early on in the last wish)

i don't think puss' SI would work on lycaon here (given he resists empathetic manipulation thanks to ether corruption), and i don't really know if i could see him using it mid-fight anyways. there's also always the possibility of lycaon just SI-ing him back. more importantly, puss doesn't resist lycaon's ice manip, which is gonna be a huge problem if he's getting tagged by attacks. not only is getting frozen solid gonna leave him open to getting attacked, but it's also gonna hamper him down a lot. and if lycaon manages to pin him down with his far superior LS, i don't really know if there's much puss can do

definitely think lycaon has more advantages here at a glance although i'd be open to hear args for puss if there are any

Puss could try using his agility to counterattack with his sword. He might be able to capitalize on piercing damage if he doesn't mess around. But it would bad for him if he got caught or frozen by Lycaon.

i think it definitely depends on how seriously puss takes the fight yeah. like i said, he definitely can lock in if he needs to, but he definitely has a tendency to be more prideful in fights, and that can let him get taken off guard by more serious opponents (his first encounter with death is kinda the perfect example of that). i'm just more inclined to believe that lycaon would go into the fight taking it seriously from the start, given the fact that he pretty much never messes around with anyone he fights. worst case scenario, if puss just charges in recklessly, he's more than likely just going to end up pinned to the ground like what happened with death, and if that happens, there's pretty much zero chance of him breaking free cause of the massive LS gap

also worth noting that lycaon has a good amount of experience fighting against agile opponents, most notably ethereals like the twin marionettes and similarly agile agents like hugo. obviously, both of these instances involve him fighting characters similar in size to him or larger, which is a lot different from fighting against someone who's like, half your size, but it does at least show that he isn't going to be caught off guard fighting against someone agile and nimble.

Yeah, I could see Lycaon catching Puss by surprise like with Death. Fighting seriously from the start would give him an edge. Plus his experience with other weapon wielding characters could help with blocking or evading sword strikes.

will bump this to put a vote in for lycaon. i don't think he's completely outclassed in skill to the point of just being completely skill diffed, so i think his calmer demeanor and far superior LS help him net a W here. puss also has no answers to lycaon's ice manip, which best case scenario will just slow him down and worst case scenario leave him open to being pinned down and LS diffed. lycaon also still always has the option of amping his speed if necessary, so worst comes to worst i think he could probably just catch puss off guard with a blitz and get him pinned down that way (i'm referring to win by incap as lycaon's main method here because he has both the strength necessary to hold puss down in place and stop him from doing anything and he likely won't go for the kill if he doesn't deem it necessary even in a SBA scenario. at worst i think he'd probably just knock puss out)

maybe make this pre-Last Wish to make it more fair? Puss can't resurrect in this key
lycaon likely wouldn't go for the kill here so i don't think it'd make much of a difference, he'd probably just knock puss out

also i don't think puss' ressurection is instantaneous is it? pretty sure there was some time between him dying in the fight against the giant and him waking up at the doctor's office so i don't think puss could just like, instantaneously get up and fight again even if lycaon killed him and he could resurrect
