The profile as is outdated relative to the game and site standards, items and powers are put is specific keys regarding progression despite not being locked behind the point in progression that the key defines. There is also numerous concepts to discuss such as character difficulty, world difficulty, and seed based options and limitations.

As such there is much to discuss when revising the profile. As such I have created a sandbox anyone can edit for the purpose of collaboration regarding the process. This thread serves as a place to discuss changes to the profile and other discussion points.

In this post I will also explain all changes I have made to sandbox from the current profile prior to this thread and introduce concepts for discussion.

Changes

You might have noticed the name of the sandbox is different, that is intentional but it is a placeholder
The current name of the profile seems poorly chosen. The name is used to refer to an [https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/Terrarian ingame item], seven bestiary entries use terrarian as a general way to refer to the inhabitants of terraria specifically the Nurse's, Dune Splicer's, Etherian Goblin's, Pirate Deckhand's, Tesla Turret's, Frankenstien's, and The Possessed's entries. Yes, adding "The" to the name helps with differentiation however to my knowledge "The Terrarian" is not an official name. It also tries to imply that we treat "he Terrarian" as a singular character by using "The" to refer to them. The profile acknowledges other players on the first key of powers and abilities, under limited teleportation when mentioning the wormhole potions which solely serve to teleport you to other players. There are other items meant for multiplayer including the Paladin's shield and it's variants as well as most items that effect aggro. One argument that has been used on this site once in opposition to the idea of multiple player characters, the 8th anniversary lore which says, "This brings us to our adventure. It begins with you – in humble beginnings and shown your path by the faithful and mysterious Guide. As this world's '''champion''', you will experience communications from the world to help protect your mission. The world has brought you to this specific location at this specific time – will you stand up and fight for Terraria against the growing shadows of impending doom?" The fact champion is not plural implies it refers a singular individual. This does not exclude the possibility of there being multiple champion's, it only confirms the information is only being provided to just one of the champions, the lore doesn't directly confirm it is just you or multiple champions because the game is both single and multiplayer. Given the possibility of multiple individuals being referred by this profile the current name seems inadequate. I have a few proposals:

  • The Player (Terraria) - based on them being a player character with no official name.
  • World's Champion/World's Champion (Terraria) - Based on the title they are given in the 8th anniversary lore.
  • Champion of Terraria - In reference to the achievement of the same name which may have been the inspiration for the title they are given in the 8th anniversary lore.

The name current can reasonably remain as a redirect given the name is a common fan nickname and has been used for so long it may also be chosen to remain the official name on the site.

The first sentence of the summary refers to them as unnamed followed by the name section calling them "The Terrarian". Neither are accurate rather the character can be given any number of names hence the use of "Varies" admittedly the formatting might be wrong

Previously listed as innate I moved it down to items since one they can't crit without items and two items determine the crit rate

Was removed the justification "Can barely detect invisible enemies" lacked detail I believe it refers to pigron and Duke Fishron, but the reason they can barely see them seems to because they are still barely visible either not becoming fully transparent or having visible glowing eyes. There are probably other arguments for enhanced senses such as seeing while blindfolded or evidence they canonically see in third person, but for now it's gone

blocks are 2x2x2 feet not 1x1x1 feet as proven by the compass

See justifications on page

Technically they can't damage ghosts, wraiths and other enemies of the like without items

The affect of ice bats according the bestiary is actually "As if bats weren't enough of a nuisance already, Ice Bats can freeze flesh solid with a touch, leaving their prey defenseless" also the water in the underground tundra is the same as in the snow biome

Not being effected is arguably game mechanics and you can not actually dispel it

Specifically Transmutation, Corruption, Soul Manipulation, possibly Conceptual Manipulation the Ancient Spirits of Light and Darkness's effects did not actually affect all the island's inhabitants. The shimmer's effects aren't entirely consistent and they still get turned insubstantial by it

Big Points of Discussion

Should we consider any character difficulty more canon then all others?

Should the profile consist one world difficultly more canon than others for example lifesteal and health regeneration are worst in expert mode and harder worlds, master mode has an extra accessory slot?

Should we only include basic seeds certain special seeds have unique items, or items that act different like the drunk seed or the remix seed?

How should items be progress gated? Currently Inferno potion, Vital Crystal, and Galaxy Pearl are all hardmode exclusive despite all being possible preboss and these are far from the only examples of the problem should prehardmode corruption and crimson items be mutually exclusive until hardmode?

I'm still somewhat iffy about NPI as it doesn't really make too much of a difference

Also I think that the wiki uses the hardest mode of a game mode as the canon mode for most games

Also I feel like items that one can feasibly get in prehardmode should be allowed otherwise as there isn't a reason not too.

Everything, that didn't already have scans, I intend to simply go back and do it as I would have a list of pretty much everything I need to get scans for

I guess I should ask for thoughts on where items should belong in progression.

all the weapons can hit them despite being very different mechanically, its more like an innate ability from champion that extends to all the weapons, at least thats what i think.

these resistances should stay but the justification is weak, the bestiary gives more information on how the evil biomes/hallow transform things spiritually and/or physically, like in the entries for corrupted jellyfishes or goldfishes and bunnies, etc

expert, master mode at most but thats about it, legendary mode definitely has arguments but my issue with it is stuff like lava replacing water in the surface layer, and theres dialogues from npcs implying that the world you play on is just canonically earth confirmed by the party girl where she says she has traveled to sweden. (side note: this likely proves that the 2x gravity compared to earth in-game is probably game mechanics and will likely have an effect on speed ratings)

yes, expert mode has a very drastic change in the game instead of just hp/damage multipliers and is often considered the recommended difficulty, normal mode is just for beginners to get into the game and master mode has no significant change aside from a bunch of hp/damage and the slot, and we dont consider hp/damage numbers as canon either.

not sure how to count the blindfold stuff, did you find any more arguments for the blindfold after this thread was posted?

actually i dont know about the expert mode stuff anymore, classic mode is the one considered "the standard terraria experience" in the difficulty menu, though that would remove a ton of stuff in the profiles.

I think the wired traps and weapons suggest otherwise but I did at it back on the page anyway

The fact the planet is literally given a different name also the Party Girl is weird the steampunker calls her magical and then there is her bathwater.
