A silly question I just asked myself.

Sorry to take up your time asking this totally stupid question which might even seem insane to you, but what is the difference between a "superior" ability and an ability with 1 layer ?

I was looking at Veldanava's page, and I saw that he possessed superior conceptual manipulation, so I wondered if this was superior or inferior to the 1 layer conceptual manipulation of magic.

Sorry again for asking this question 🙏

Superior ability= more potent version of said ability
For example a Time Stop that last 10 minutes is Greater/Superior to one that only last 10 secondes. So if an ability get stronger in between keys then you can say that with the new key then that ability is enhanced/greater/superior.

A layered ability is an ability that bypass resistance to said ability. You can think of Layers as something like:

Time Stop (Baseline) < Resistance to Time Stop (Baseline) < Time Stop (1 Layer, work even against those who resist Time Stop) < Resistance to Time Stop (1 Layer, protect against Time Stop that work against Time Stop resistance) < Time Stop (2 Layer, work even against those who resist Time Stop that work against Time Stop resistance) < etc

(I forgot to mention this, but thank you in advance for any future replies) 🙏

So the capacity with 1 layer is much more powerful ?

Potency and layers are unrelated, a mind manip that give you a headache but have 3 layers is not necessarly more powerful than one who is baseline but leave you in a vegetative state.

The first have more layers and thus bypass greater defenses but is less potent and thus have lesser effects.

In fact, Veldanava obtained higher conceptual manipulation because he created the Language of the World, or the Voice of the World. The latter is a system that governs how skills function, including Ultimate Skills. These Ultimate Skills themselves possess 5 layers of conceptual manipulation, so would that mean that Veldanava’s higher conceptual manipulation, which created the Language of the World, is superior to the conceptual manipulation of Ultimate Skills even if they have 5 layers ?
