Invincible Season 4 General Discussion Thread

Just finished watching the episode and I have some thoughts.
  1. The omitted comic statements shouldn't be used to determine the validity of the feat in the show. We separate the two continuities for a reason.
  2. I believe from what we see from the show, the Infinity Ray was piercing a tiny, but deep hole into the planet where Mark and co. can smoothly go through and bust through it. This would be visually supported by the Ray itself not doing much damage compared to the trio which we also saw in the comics. For the record, that would mean the Ray had less of a stake in the feat than them here (and no, I don't think the Ray busting a star means they or Viltrum is also star level, stars have different composition FRA).
  3. The Infinity Ray itself is portrayed as fodder in this episode, Thragg doesn't even take it seriously and doesn't bother to move out the way, yet he recognises the danger of the planet bust and actively tries to stop them
  4. Mark saying "We can't!" shouldn't be taken seriously to invalidate the feat. Nolan is not delusional enough to send them to their deaths and Thragg recognised what they were trying to do in the first place, plus Nolan's planet movement statement makes it inconsistent to think they can't bust the planet.
  5. Anyone who can destroy Mark's glasses scales above his contribution of the feat, as we see them crack when he performs it.
  6. Mark's space survival feat is dubious in the show. While it cuts from Thragg sparing him to Telia saving him, Telia wasn't far off the planet in the first place and they don't mention him being gone for two weeks in space, but rather when he was asleep which includes after they recovered him.

He doesn't move out of the way because it wouldn't have hit him.

How does he know? He's not even looking at the blast, nor at Space Racer's position so he doesn't know the trajectory of it. He knows some of the Viltrumites got hit cuz he hears them yelling but he doesn't know the exact angle they got hit from, so he wouldn't know if it would blast him too. Despite that, he doesn't give a sh*t about it

Thragg must have great spatial awareness. He knew exactly how far to move back to get out of the way of Nolan's punch, and no further

the ray would still have to effect the entire core with it's AOE, if it's just a small beam it'd do nothing to both planet and sta

You know Sendokai planetary feats seem more viable than this, there isn't that much discussion about it (...well, to be fair, Sendokai is not that well known)

In the comics it's explained the laser destabilized the planets core and opened a path

Show doesn't have that but instead it seems like the infinity ray opened a clear path for them to piledrive through the planets core detonating it

Same episode said Mark would die from tunneling through the Earth. Which Mark agreed with and why Nolan needed the infinity ray to drill a hole through the planet.

So her statement isn't that good. Her goal was also to build an army of lava demons to take over the world and not solo it, so overall I don't see that as a Low 5-B statement.

The Invincible verse is a victim a variable powerscaling I fear
 
I just wonder if they're going to cut the whole "37 Viltrumites can rip the planet in half" statement from Thragg. With the direction the shows going omitting lines from the comics and Kirkmans visceral hatred of powerscaling in general I say there is a very high chance its absent next episode.

Also I agree with the calc of @FusionPrime0 it seems very good

I loved the episode and how they represented the destruction of Viltrum it was so beautiful, also Thragg beaten up the fraud allegations 😹

I don't get it myself there's many things that are said in the show that just set up powerscaling in the verse. Saying certain characters are the strongest and season 2 mark being stronger than immortal.
