This Profile
The current name of the profile seems less than ideal. The name is used to refer to an [https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/Terrarian ingame item], seven bestiary entries use terrarian as a general way to refer to the inhabitants of terraria specifically the Nurse's, Dune Splicer's, Etherian Goblin's, Pirate Deckhand's, Tesla Turret's, Frankenstien's, and The Possessed's entries. I believe the name was chosen based on Re-logic calling the fan base Terrarians, but that is not the same as them calling player characters that. Adding "The" to the name helps with differentiation from other uses of the name however to my knowledge "The Terrarian" is not an official name. It also implies that we treat "The Terrarian" as a singular character by using "The" to refer to them. The profile acknowledges other players on the first key of powers and abilities, under limited teleportation when mentioning the Wormhole Potions which solely serve to teleport you to other players. There are other items meant for multiplayer including the Paladin's Shield, it's variants, most items that effect aggro, Team Dyes, and Scrying Orb. One argument that has been used on this site in opposition to the idea of multiple player characters refers to the 8th anniversary lore which says, "As this world's champion, you will experience communications from the world to help protect your mission." The argument boils down to the fact champion is not plural implying it refers a singular individual. This does not exclude the possibility of there being multiple champions, it only confirms the information is being provided to just one of the champions, the lore doesn't directly confirm it is just one or multiple champions because the game is both single and multiplayer. Given the possibility of multiple individuals being referred by this profile the current name seems inadequate. I have a few proposals:

  • Player (Terraria) - based on them being a player character with no official name.
  • World's Champion/World's Champion (Terraria) - Based on the title they are given in the 8th anniversary lore.
  • Champion of Terraria - In reference to the achievement of the same name which may have been the inspiration for the title they are given in the 8th anniversary lore.
Even if the current name of the profile stays there are a few name related changes to be made. First, the summary calls them "unnamed" which is not true they are named by the player. Second, the name section calls them "The Terrarian" it should probably be depends on what the player names them like what The Player (Wizard101) does if we keep "The Terrarian" then I believe any usage of "the Terrarian" is incorrect and needs to be fixed. Lastly the justification for early game limited portal creation should probably replace the word player with something else.

A friend of mine pointed this naming out to me back then... I didn't think someone would actually do it, and yes, I agree.

I like the first option. And maybe the other titles can be used as redirects, so the character can popup in the search results when trying to search the other options?

As for the Portal Creation justification, what do you think is better suited for calling the character?

A lot of people call the player character “terrarian” or “the terrarian” so those should still probably be redirects in the search bar if this goes through.

I'd say "The Champion (Terraria)" works, its better than the generic "The Player" name which is entirely overused on site and at least is an actual lore given title and is on the achievements too

Just redirect from the terrarian name

I suspect the others name ideas would not be commonly used they were more so brought out because I thought there may have been people who would be against another The Player (Game) named profile and support (honestly I don't think The should be part of the name name in this case but that's probably not really important) The Terrarian just because it was different, at most it would probably be best to add them as classifications.

The portal creation thing only really worked that way if we didn't decide to go with that particular name instead we would probably try to use it more often. The main change would instead be towards use of the Terrarian in justifications be just terrarian or replaced with player.

Yeah, I must have accidently deleted that part when I decided this should be its own revision separate from the rest of my revision plans.

Just redirect from the terrarian name
The only thing is I would go with just "Champion (Terraria)" on account of multiplayer and the only other use of the word in Terraria is the Golfer talking about a Champion's golf score.

Honestly, as long as it isn't the current name, I am fine with any of the three you suggested.

Are we sure it can't just be Champion (Terraria) I already explained why it doesn't work for the previous name and the same reasoning applies.

I have not been able to locate the rename or move button for one, everything explaining how to do it says the button is in the menu the three dots next to the edit button opens but all I get is VisualEditor, History, Purge, Talk, Watch, What links here.

Alright, the page has been renamed and the links have been cleaned up.

Cleaning up the forum tags took me quite some time.

Now that the thread has concluded, I will be closing this.
