Sonic General Discussion Zone Act 1: New Frontiers

A logical explanation would be that "Reality" in the Sonic verse has shown to "restore itself" when certain conditions were met (parts of timelines restored, rebuilding of the Paradox Prism and possibly the end of the EggWar).
I think that's a stretch, I'll be real. At least in terms of Classic's power just resetting despite him being unaffected by that stuff since he still remembers and has experienced anything. At that point, he should've forgot everything.

Aren't both fights technically with composites of canon and non-canon material for Sonic and Mario to some degree, just with outdated research?
Mario vs Sonic 2 didn't use Archie, just their pseudo-composite for Game Sonic they still use of game, X and OVA.

moreso was joking at that point, but the point is characters off-guard can be nerfed to massive amounts. But I do agree with Classic Sonic one-shotting the Chaos clone is somewhat decent proof for power progression
Sure, being off-guard can. But we're talking a planet-star level being one-shotting a Low Multiversal person. I don't think being taken off-guard is nerfing you an infinite amount. At least in the context of this verse.

Late asf on this but I remember having a similar discussion once about the Superstars time manip feat that stemmed from if Sonic actually resisted erasure from the Time Eater because if Eggman somehow saved him. (I disagree with that but yk)

Also remembering that, I also thought of Metal Overlord in the boss gate unlike Classic Metal Sonic. But at the same time I don't think Metal Overlord being located in a boss gate would contradict any erasure resistance, especially since Eggman himself was in a boss gate and we know for a fact he wasn't erased, so there should be exceptions

Random, but they mentioned scaling Cell to Z Broly destroying South Galaxy in a blackbox. I'm surprised Master Core ABIS creating galaxies wasn't noted as a comparison to that.

Well, I say surprised but it could be a pretty easy detail to overlook if you aren't actively examining the bossfight.

Speed caveat aside, this current fight is truly great. I love how Cell attacks Metal with Super Shadow's initial combo (or something extremely similar to it) from movie 3 right after Metal states that he already has the Ultimate Life Form's data.
I liked Metal still blitzed Cell in the animation despite them making Cell faster in actuality.

There are so many neat things in this fight it's really great, like silhouettes of Goku, Frieza and Tien showing up in Metal's eye as he copies Cell

I think it was implying that even without time stop, Metal would be able to close the gap through copying + speed amps. The animation treats Metal post-copy as being at least comparable to Perfect Cell in power, so they might’ve applied that to speed as well.

Then again Metal Overlord lost almost immediately despite the scaling saying otherwise (probably because he’s annoying to animate). Might just be another case of the animation not needing to be accurate outside of the end result.

Yeah Death Battle animations can be really inconsistent with the results a plethora of times

I'd also be mad but the sheer absurdity of it just circles back to it being funny again
The funniest part is that even with Cell being 100x faster and Super forms apparently having time limits, it still didn’t change the outcome of the fight thanks to Chaos Control just being that busted.

Now that I think about it, Metal would also gain a form of Super Saiyan after copying Cell. Cell has Super Saiyan shown by his aura, ability to bulk up his muscles like grade 2/3, and how he “powered up like Gohan” complete with SSJ2 lightning when he became Super Perfect Cell. This means Metal would copy a 50-100x power and speed multiplier from Cell, which makes the speed difference negligible even with DB’s speed scaling.

South Galaxy is 1/4 of the universe, so it wouldn’t have been favorable. And also they probably don’t buy ABIS creating galaxies.

Infinite return
This f#$k is gonna be this series' new Potential Man right behind Tails, isn't he?

Jokes aside, I hope they find something cool to do with him and I hope he returns in a mainline game alongside IDW. Bringing Infinite to IDW, who is arguably the catalyst of the entire comic, would be both a treat and very fitting. Especially if peak Adam Bryce Thomas is drawing him.

Who cares about Death Battle, he's back.

Eggman resumes being secretly immortal.
- Ya love to see it.

More seriously though I wonder where this could go because there's no way they'd get rid of Infinite in the Chaotix Casefiles series right after bringing him back (probably) but the question is where else will he appear and in what capacity?
Also it would be so wild if it turned out that parts of the road to #100 in IDW and the Chaotix Casefiles were somehow setup/promotion for the next Sonic game way in advance. There's no way that could be the case, I just don't believe it, but if that ends up being true I'd make so many jokes about Sonic Team playing 4D chess because wow that kind of planning would be insane.

They explicitly said Infinite didn't die or even get sucked into the Ruby like we all thought, so I doubt he's leaving but I wonder what powersource he will use. Even here he's using the lens and not the Ruby.

Shallot??

Read issue 85 and wow Sage really is mega nerfed for some reason. She has barriers still but somehow she's managed to lose 80% of her powers from Frontiers. Said powers that she's displayed on screen repeatedly but alright.

On the bright side the issue was interesting at least and it succeeded at being eerie but wow did they do Sage dirty. Also I loved the part where Sage called Belle "his stuff" in reference to belonging to Eggman with the most smug grin ever that part really reminds you that she's still a villain.

I mean, if you wanna tie Death Battle into this, Eggman once again got betrayed by one of his allies...
Infinite was never important in BowEgg

IDW nerfs every single Sonic character so I'm not surprised.

Speaking of Master Core ABIS' feat, I still can't spot Earth whatsoever but wouldn't it seemingly spinning galaxies make creating the black hole somewhere close to Galaxy level? Or like, 4-B to 4-A at least?

Me neither, but I never expected Sage to randomly lose abilities that's she's displayed on screen much less teleportation when she did that constantly. I expected them to put reasonable limits on some of her abilities like "phasing through objects requires concentration meaning she's normally tangible in a battle unless she diverts attention to only phasing" or "her teleportation has a cooldown period after use" without contradicting what was shown in Frontiers but losing abilities outright is just so weird.

Edit: Her losing Cybercages and the ability to summon the Ancients tech is entirely reasonable but besides that I don't know why she'd lose abilities that are tied to her physiology.

IDW Sonic in a nutshell: I love the art ❤️, I love the characters ❤️, I love the character interactions ❤️, I love the story ideas ❤️, I like the world-building ✅️ but I cannot stand how they write "stakes" 😒.

Sage in issue #85 in a nutshell.

Encounters Metal Sonic outside the cave five minutes earlier.

Sage: Forgets she just ran into Metal Sonic.

Sage five minutes later when Metal Sonic shows up and attacks her: "My models did not predict this"

I’m hcing this is after the original Frontiers ending, Eggman rebuilt Sage but couldn’t get all her abilities in there.

If that is true though we might need to make a “post-Frontiers” Sage key in the same vein of Dark Danny’s clone body where it’s just heavily nerfed.
