Terraria 1.4.5: Power Bombs

Terraria's 1.4.5 update came out nearly a month ago, and it changed a bunch of stuff, some of which would be pretty significant for the Terrarian's profile such as limited Clairvoyance with the Scrying Orb, or enhanced Electricity Manipulation with the Electric Eel, etc. I was considering making a giant CRT of all the stuff the update would change and add, and also polish up some stuff that was incorrect even before the update (like seriously, who tf put the Pre-Boss Shimmer upgrades Vital Crystal, Arcane Crystal, Gummy Worm, Galaxy Pearl, and Ambrosia under Hardmode?) but I never got around to it. I might still do it if I have the time, but right now I'm just going to bring something up which would be significant for the verse's early scaling: Power Bombs. The current scaling for early Terraria, like King Slime's profile, uses Dynamite for the scaling (Ebonstone being immune to explosives, which is said on the EoW's profile, has been wrong for over 14 years btw). Something about measuring how much Tungsten Ore a dynamite can blow up: https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:Mequa/terraria_dynamite_calc. However, 1.4.5 introduced Power Bombs, which have a larger explosion than Dynamite: it has a radius of 9 tiles compared to Dynamite's 7. While Power Bombs can only be obtained in Hardmode, earlygame bosses, and therefore earlygame Terrarian, should still scale to it, as it for some reason does less damage than Dynamite. So yeah, it'd be appreciated if someone could calc the Power Bomb's explosion.

Disagree with early game scaling. Pretty sure we have to take in account when it's obtained, and the fact it can damage hardmode ores which make hardmode armor should make that clear. It'd be pretty weird to basically scale an early game terrarian to titanium/adamantite which gives like moon level durability.

Pretty sure we have to take in account when it's obtained,
You are correct. We currently split the Terrarian as follows:
  • Key: Early Game | Post-Evil Bosses | Post-WoF | Post-Mechanical Bosses | Post-Plantera | Post-Lunatic Cultist | Post-Moon Lord
To make the Power Bomb you require Cobalt or Palladium, something that can only happen post-Wall of Flesh.

That's not what I'm seeing

Edit: Oh wait, looking at the page, what you said is in the "key" but in the actual Powers and Abilities section it's what's in my image in this comment.

But if you're in Hardmode, and you throw some Power Bombs at King Slime, who's in the exact same state as when you fight him earlygame, he survives them just fine, the same or even better than how he survives dynamite.

For games like Terraria, the assumption is generally as follows:
  1. The player character is assumed to not have died unless death is a Canon aspect to the story
  2. The player character is assumed to have done all prep work possible for a fight (so 100% runs are always Canon)
  3. Grinding isn't Canon unless the story confirms it happens in-universe (so you have perfect luck and get everything you need when you need it)
  4. The player is assumed to have done as much as possible before the next stat checkpoint
So the Terrarian is assumed to fight the King Slime as early as reasonably possible with the best gear they would have access to at that point. Stuff later in the game like Moon Lord weapons or the power bomb do not backscale.

Can't lie, it's a bit weird to say that the Power Bomb's kaboom should be stronger since it's bigger, but then say that it scales cause it's weaker than Dynamite in-game. Sounds a bit contradictory.

I know it's game mechanics and stuff, but still, sounds weird.

Yeah I disagree with this FRA and its also not even properly structured, this could have simply just been asked about in the discussion thread
