Introduction
About time we got around to this. So, God of War is a series that's been on the site for over a decade now, and has since gotten several new installments, including an entire saga added to it since then. Not only has the setting undergone great change, but the tiering system, standards of proof, and even basic interpretation of feats and statements has changed a lot. A consequence of all of this is that a lot of older arguments that were discarded become relevant and a lot of relevant clarification becomes redundant. Why the above spiel? As I'm sure a lot of you know, God of War has made use of a lot of clarifying statements from authors for various aspects, from cosmology to game mechanic/lore separation, enough that it's become a running joke that the series might as well be labeled God of Lore. That's no longer the case. These statements, while invaluably useful for their time, are simply no longer needed for the most part and can be done away with, for good.
The verse has grown, battle-boarding has grown, and I can speak for all of us that "the stars you see in the sky are real stars" isn't something that constantly needs author affirmation. So, this thread is removing a lot of Word-of-God that, while valid, is no longer relevant to God of War's current ratings on the site.
Removals
- This entire section of the Explanation Page can go. A lot of it uses Twitter statements and the like for confirmation of information that we have clarified to us just by the in-game content itself. The fact is that, aside from the blatant cosmic scale of the Norse saga, we have more than enough in-game information to confirm that the different regions are whole realities unto themselves.
- Mimir exclaims that Tyr himself needed the Unity Stone to travel to other realms and lands, implying a greater level of difficulty of reaching these lands and regions than regular Realm Travel, which is relevant given the Nine Realms are alternate planes of existence that exist as reflections of each other on the Yggdrasil.
- Years later while traversing Valhalla, Kratos affirms that Persephone's plan would have destroyed all of creation rather than just a small geographical region in the Mediterranean. Despite this same phrase being used in reference to the Yggdrasil holding all Nine Realms on its boughs, a conversation with Ratatoskr confirms that Greece existed beyond the World Tree entirely.
- This section of the blog can go without the Twitter statement. It is self-evident from the Trials of Archimedes that an entire world exists in the mirror realm that you access in order to get the Eyes of Truth.
- The statement of a battle between him and Zeus being considered a debatable affair can gp. It's redundant now that both directly scale to Kratos at the peak of his power prior to Valhalla.
- The slew of Twitter statements in this section of the explanation page can be removed. The novelization, guides and in-game showcase directly confirm the existence of overarching alternate timelines.
- Athena's page can remove the Twitter statement of being "as powerful as many Gods". She directly holds Kratos back, however briefly, in-game, and is implied to be capable of harming Ares anyways, held back by Zeus's decree that no god may wage war on another.
- This WoG statement regarding Kratos breaking out of full petrification is unneeded. We directly see him do this in-game, and both the game and novelizations confirm that they are fully turned to stone.
