Unpopular Opinions and (Friendly) Rant thread

Best kinds of matchups are the matchups where all parties have everything that they possibly can have (all powers, abilities, stats, equipment, etc) AND the matchups where all parties only have their own physical and mental characteristics (powers, abilities, stats, etc, nothing else other than possibly stuff in the environment).
Basically, all or nothing.
Wondering how (or if) this opinion will be challenged.

A lot of characters are on some tier 1 outerversal shit once you give them all their powerups and forms and stuff, and tier 1 matchups were devised by god to break the souls of man.

There are people who aim for Tier 1 in particular so that their character(s) become nigh unbeatable. Tier 1 debates being nonsensical hellscapes is par the course.

Back when I was more active in this forum (more active than now, anyways) I used to check the RVR thread just to see the kind of goofy shit people here are up to and what kind of stuff people get banned for or get away with.

Looking at recent stuff in that thread, things truly never change.

I always have an ick for profiles for characters are either entirely unrelated from the power-scaling of their verse (or in general), unrelated from any sort of supernatural themes or are just never implied to be strong in anyway.

Yet they have profiles surrounding them with crazy stats, like Tier 6 regular Timmy Turner.

There's nothing really wrong with it admittedly (when the scaling is legitimate) it just rubs me the wrong way.

I have a few verses not in the wiki that I have concerned adding in it, but not to. Mostly due to not having enough time and motivation to do so, but also out of concern that it's gonna get attention and therefore get wanked and misrepresented by powerscaling communities.
I have never actually wanted to but I have considered what profiles for Hello Charlotte would look like, and I realized that that game is full of so much ambiguous poetic description and metaphor that you could interpret the same characters as anything from town to universal from the same actions.
This would be really funny to see, but Etherane deserves better than having that happen to her work.

I shall comment on Canto 8.
The Elders have disgusted me.
The background "ost" also made me unironically nauseous.
Lei Heng was... Surprisingly easy, tho i used the legendary "Chain of Others+Crow's Eye View Lobotomy" combo when Lei Heng used his Unbreakables like Tanglecleaver or Perfected Flurry of Blades.
Gubo and Jia Huan are only hard because theres 3 different mobs you need to take care off while managing dudes that have 3 attacks slot each.
Overall. 9.23/10
(No Spoilers on Canto 9 please.)

When 90% of what makes a character tier 1 is arguing the semantics and wich translation to use.
Was thinking of matchups way below Tiers 1 and 0, but fair points. (That being said, as long as powerscaling and fictions that embrace pushing the limits of the powers of their worlds and characters exist, this sort of stuff is probably going to be an eternal issue.)
Would be insane to see an upset between a low tier character and a high tier character purely because of hax or smurf stuff supporting the low tier character against the high tier character though, but that'd also probably turn the debate thread into a warzone's no-man's/woman's/person's-land so probably for the best it's avoided.

I think staff being divided in certain cases is perfectly fine. It shows that the system is not too monolithic.
The community is user-powered and so the RVR thread will always have some degree of trial and error in it. I just think it's a bit funny to see how that process goes as a community member.

Staff Team is a bunch of fishes when it comes to rvr.
They flip flop between the same shit, what?
30 times?
It will be one fell swoop when I order you to the Gulag of Despair.

Anyways.
Finished Canto 8.
Genuinely so ******* peak.
I've never expected Tian Tian to be... Like a fricking Haiwaan Music but HOLY ******* SHIT IT'S PEAK!

Dude.
Annabeth is such a fraud.
What you mean the "Daughter of Athenas" didn't had set up one supply line, one punji spike, one barbed wire, ONE FRICKING CHOKE POINT in Manhattan!
Genuinely, how does one fumble the bag that hard?!

Are you gonna apply this same logic to also knock points off of the Saiyan Saga? Because Piccolo goes through the exact same thing. He doesn't outwardly say "mb og, I ****** up."
He gets put in a situation where he's forced to do good and upon this he starts to realize the error of his ways. Toriyama doesn't feel the need to show you that these characters are changing their mind, the fact that they are willing to do good for the sake of good should be enough for you to get it, which is why they both do the most good thing possible, sacrificing themselves for the sake of others.
I did say that redemption arcs are sometimes gradual over being drastic, Piccolo is one example. One reason why I don't separate between Dragon Ball and Z is because Piccolo's redemption starts when Goku spares him at the end of the 23rd Budokai. While it was a risky maneuver to give Piccolo a senzu as it could mean him going out and destroying the world whether or not Goku stops him, it gave him the opportunity to reflect on Goku's decision on doing to whilst also training to potentially fight him again. When the Earth was threatened it basically put him in a position were he had to cooperate with Goku and co., otherwise there wouldn't be world to take over. And then he starts training Gohan, who is a lot like Goku in terms of being a kind soul, and this starts to rub off of Piccolo and reflect even more as their relationship is explored.

I would like to go into more detail and give more justice to Piccolo's redemption arc, but I think the main thing that matters here to make it work, to make Piccolo sacrifing himself matter to the story, is Piccolo's relationship to Gohan and the mere fact that the threat to the Earth still affects Piccolo personally.

For Vegeta though, he has no horse in the race at all for Trunk's warning about the future, he really couldn't give a blip about Earth and really doesn't belong with the rest of the Dragon Team at the beginning of the Cell Arc. If anything he should have left Earth and never came back by then.

If you want to take problem with the Cell Saga for this, you'd have to take issue with the Saiyan Saga. Which when put that way, means that singling out the Cell Saga is odd. I personally like the silent redemption anyways, but I can see your qualms with it.
I have multiple other problems with the Cell arc, I've already my piece on this thread, I'm not going to try to bother repeating it but they mainly stem from Dragon Ball having an identity crisis of where it is supposed to go and what it is supposed to be with Goku turning SSJ and defeated the strongest person in space-leading to villains that just fall flat, the cast of the Dragon Team reduced to cardboard cutouts, and fights that carry no narrative significance to them-thus making the Cell Arc a very vapid and boring read that in the end feels like a waste of time, and does not feel like it truly contributes anything to the mythos of Dragon Ball.

Vegeta for me is an overall problem I have with Dragon Ball, Toriyama just didn't know what to really do with him after the Freeza so he ends up as a diabolus ex machina to keep the story going no matter how contrived the way he does it. It's just the most pronounced in the Cell Arc.

Im going to crawl my way out of that with my bare hands lad.
wrong, DC 30 strength check to escape your manacles, your ass is NOT passing that buddy

If VSBW is an RPG, the staff are GMs, you're pretty much screwed if you want to oppose them.
That being said...
It will be one fell swoop when I order you to the Gulag of Despair.
I know it's a joke, but not sure if Bambu is being too hard/harsh/strict/stringent or too easy/lenient/lax with the gulag...
He could have easily just suggested an indestructible inescapable solitary confinement cell to be buried alive/immured in.
Sorry Homie, but this does not look good for you.
