Im out of the loop on the age stuff...Get real bro, no way![]()
Where did they retcon her age? All I can find is 12.Amy hasn't been 12 for a loooooong time.
Unless you believe they can charge a 12 year old girl with leading the Restoration after a literal war.
Good theory, one I'm even inclined to believe... but ultimately fanon. Good fanon, but still fanon.Or alternatively, mobians have a different life cycle than humans...

Basically, their ages were removed from the official Sonic Channel pages over a year back and Ian Flynn did a #KnowingSmile when it was pointed out on Twitter.Im out of the loop on the age stuff...
Um shake you rock and all but...Basically, their ages were removed from the official Sonic Channel pages over a year back and Ian Flynn did a #KnowingSmile when it was pointed out on Twitter.
They still never revealed the precise reasoning, but the only thing that makes sense is Sonic Team being tired of getting asked how much time has passed or how old they are nowadays (as well as never having to commit to an answer). That's just my best guess though, alongside with some minor talk Ian did regarding it on the BumbleKast.
I've seen the word Critter thrown around in some official social media posts. And said posts didn't involve the small animals.Side note; I think if they ever had to come up with a name for the Anthro Race, "Islander" would be the best candidate.
I can't agree more with this, it's bad enough turning Sonic into a groomer but with his little bro? WTF! Also I don't appreciate whenever Sonic is turned into an abuser or asshole in the shipping community (mostly notably in AmyxShadow AUs), like is funny when he playfully teases pairing (e.g KnucklesxRouge in Rivals 2) but that's how far it should go and no more.
- (Dis)Honorable Mention: Anything pairing adults/teenagers with children (because duh). Sonic x Tails is particularly disgusting to me.
Ah... the Peter Pan syndrome where time passes through the narrative yet canonically the characters remain the same age or age group even when "years" pass (I've got to give props to both Digimon and Street Fighter for actually having characters age).Basically, their ages were removed from the official Sonic Channel pages and Ian Flynn did a #KnowingSmile when it was pointed out on Twitter.

I wish I still had your innocence when it comes to the "creativity" of certain aspects of the Sonic fandom.Wait seriously? That's a thing?
I thought so as well, but I haven't found a clip confirming such. Maybe it was Flynn who said that, I'm unsure.wasn’t there like a statement where they’re like age categories now but not a specific age?
I know the "Ageless Birthday" trope but I just cannot see Sonic as anything younger than 18 Post-Forces lolLike Sonic and Amy are teenagers but not specified what age and someone like Cream is a child
Professor Victoria called them "Gaians" IIRCSide note; I think if they ever had to come up with a name for the Anthro Race, "Islander" would be the best candidate.
Mobian is a dead term (excluding Mount Mobius) since Earth is the name of the planet , and Tails already confirmed the Anthros live on the scattered Islands while humanity is primarily on the mainland. So yeah, Islanders.
Because ** "Nermies" and ** "Mobians"
THAT'S EVEN WORSE THAN 16 Y/O SONIC X 12 Y/O AMY??!!I know the "Ageless Birthday" trope but I just cannot see Sonic as anything younger than 18 Post-Forces lol
I thought her age was mentioned as 18?Ages are wack anyways because Rouge is 17 in Heroes and government agent
I think he’s implying that Amy and everyone else are also olderTHAT'S EVEN WORSE THAN 16 Y/O SONIC X 12 Y/O AMY??!!
But that's not how it works either. If they want to distance themselves from ages entirely, then reverting them back to their old ages means literally nothing should have been changed.Um shake you rock and all but...
That's not a retcon. If there's no replacement, they are either ageless, or default back to what we know, which is their previous ages. I don't think simply removing that is enough to say their ages are different.
My response to this lies above. If it means we now choose their ages, Sonic is actually more likely 19 (or more) while Amy is 13 vs Sonic 17 and Amy 13, as there's no reason the age DIFFERENCE would've changed.
They could've aged up Sonic and simply did this for this express purpose, cuz Sonic is on the brink of adulthood.
On SA2 yeah but they changed it for some reasonI thought her age was mentioned as 18?
THAT'S EVEN WORSE THAN 16 Y/O SONIC X 12 Y/O AMY??!!
Yeah I'm insulted to even have to make this distinction I'm ngl, what do people take me for here?I think he’s implying that Amy and everyone else are also older
If Sonic is 18... and Amy is beyond consistently younger than Sonic....I think he’s implying that Amy and everyone else are also older
Sure I guess, they certainly don't want to make him a creep, I'm just saying that considering the ages removed is proof of the cast being aged up opens up a whole can of worms one way or another, the Sonic team isn't doing anything that can cause an issue here, I'm saying using the absence as proof in the fandom is, not everyone will think Sonic's age randomly froze while Amy aged like we do.But that's not how it works either. If they want to distance themselves from ages entirely, then reverting them back to their old ages means literally nothing should have been changed.
That's the point; it doesn't matter because ultimately it will be up to the interpretation of the individual.
Be honest, do you genuinely believe the American Sonic Team want to stare an age gap like that in the face? Hell no, especially when that makes their eponymous mascot look like a creep when he occasionally reciprocates bouts of romance.
My response to this lies above.
Yes, but there's 2 different cans of worms.Sure I guess, they certainly don't want to make him a creep, I'm just saying that considering the ages removed is proof of the cast being aged up opens up a whole can of worms one way or another
The biggest "?????" in existenceLeast favorite ship: Big x Shadow
When you put it that way that's true I guess, I guess it's at worst a weird retcon of a few years or somethingYes, but there's 2 different cans of worms.
1. Forcing a 4-year-gap between Sonic and Amy even when their ages are unknown, thus making Sonic a borderline statutory rapist.
2. Letting strict ages go, meaning the individual can paint the picture themselves and romance between 2 of the most iconic characters isn't forced to be awkward because of a mandatory age difference.
I let you choose which is better.
My argument is the 4 year gap is no longer a thing, because ages are no longer a thing. Including the age gap.
Sonic as an abuser? I know some people have a "good guy gone bad" kink but how does this even remotely work for a fun-loving guy like Sonic? Also I don't appreciate whenever Sonic is turned into an abuser or asshole in the shipping community (mostly notably in AmyxShadow AUs), like is funny when he playfully teases pairing (e.g KnucklesxRouge in Rivals 2) but that's how far it should go and no more.
Yup. Sonic, The Simpsons, etc. are just perpetually stuck, eh?Ah... the Peter Pan syndrome where time passes through the narrative yet canonically the characters remain the same age or age group even when "years" pass (I've got to give props to both Digimon and Street Fighter for actually having characters age).
Yeah bro and don't worry, I wasn't coming for your take or anything, I just had to set the record straight that from MY perspective I believe they were just retconned to be like 2 years apart. If you think the 4 year gap still works and they're older for example, all the power in the world to you! There are ways to get around it (unrequited, age-up, etc.)When you put it that way that's true I guess, I guess it's at worst a weird retcon of a few years or something
I try to have faith but dear Lord...But don't act like the fandom will be as mature as you are LMAO trust me
t h e yã…¤ w o n ' t .
Oh wow, did she really? I didn't pay attention to that TailsTube, I thought she was referring to some ancient civilization.Professor Victoria called them "Gaians" IIRC
Terran is pretty clever, letting you know it's still an Earth-bound species set apart from humans. Really clever, dude! Best part is I could actually see it as a name Sega isnt afraid to stick to.I like "terran" for the anthro characters. It's something simple like "human", and ties into how Earth has been called Terra in our history. I do like "gaians" more, but this franchise already has enough terms that can't be googled because of name sharing (Chaos Sonic brings up like 4 different official things at least I think), so because of Unleashed lore, I personally wouldn't go for "gaians" since it'd be likely confused for the Gaias and stuff.
Tbh I'm fine with any spanning timeline for the series, as long as it's past a duration of about 4 years or so.I also definitely imagine at least 13ish years has passed since Sonic 1, if not more. The characters physically aged a lot between Sonic 1 and SA1, and it seems a lot of time as passed since SA1 as well.
I mean, it's not like he could give any other answer when there had been no official age change during that time. I remember even him saying that doesn't make sense due to Generations making clear "a year of something from some moment passed" and other material. There are times when Ian said some absurd things, but he was clearly saying with a sarcastic tone of "Sadly, this doesn't make sense, and I just can't do anything about this". Which is true, he is just a writer that works based on what he is given.I just can't forget that time Ian Flynn said he believes the series has taken place over the course of a year.
I haven't seen the clip ever since but if that's the case then fair.I mean, it's not like he could give any other answer when there had been no official age change during that time. I remember even him saying that doesn't make sense due to Generations making clear "a year of something from some moment passed" and other material.
This is valid, but there are various instances where he says something outright ludicrous of his own volition that really stick on occasion (Chaos Control being Time Manipulation only lololol). There are times when Ian said some absurd things, but he was clearly saying with a sarcastic tone of "Sadly, this doesn't make sense, and I just can't do anything about this".
Are you sure? I though she was referring to just the unnamed civilisationProfessor Victoria called them "Gaians" IIRC
Just double-checked and yeah, she was referring to a civilization rather than our beloved AnthrosAre you sure? I though she was referring to just the unnamed civilisation
oh yeah since we're talking ships I wanna give my own take on smth rqThat being said I think the mandates of no romance on existing characters should never be removed ngl
I don't mind an asexual Sonic. Seems almost fitting in a way, though my heart years to see the pink and blue hogs cut the bullshit.I'm not a Sonamy fan and I would prefer Sonic just being aro/ace, though if it has to be canon I'd like it to be that Sonic likes Amy, but he never commits to a relationship and the whole "will they, won't they" thing stays.
REEEEEEEEEEEE DIE IN A HOLEJust my opinion tho
