I believe this could work as Ruby Rose and Weiss Schnee are canonically partners that team up and even have special moves they can only perform together.

The match should be allowed based on this exception:

If two characters are canonically known for fighting alongside one another frequently and supplement each other's skills in combat.

With that out of the way, I wanted to test how RWBY would do against a REAL skill merchant. Hopefully this ends up being somewhat fair. I've actually been on quite the streak of close matchups.

Match Conditions

  • Mori Jin is in his "National Competition Arc" Key (8-B). His Jeahbongchim Acupuncture and Monkey King Mode are restricted.
  • Both Ruby Rose and Weiss Schnee are in their Post-Beacon keys (8-B). Weiss Schnee's 8-A summoning is restricted.
  • Speed is equalized.
  • Ruby Rose and Weiss Schnee are told that there opponent is an "exceptionally skilled martial artist."
  • This battle will take place in the Backrooms (Large, endless office setting). The contestants will start at a distance of 100 meters away. Ruby and Weiss will be spawned in a negligible distance away from one another.
Note: Mori Jin scales to 40 Tons. Weiss Schnee and Ruby Rose scale to 21 Tons. This gives Mori Jin a ~2x advantage in AP. Both have Class M lifting strength, but Mori has a massive ~233x advantage in that category.

Mori can use this

  • Bo-Bup (Way of Walking): A technique that allows for high-speed movement in any direction, allowing the user to seemingly teleport and attack from above, below, the side, or even behind with ease.
Then he starts to clown on them with the speed boost idk.

But as a Defender of Class G Lifting Strength I have to side with the characters with the superior Class G (The Most Important Factor in any debate bar none)

Because he starts at 8-A for the fight he won't get that 8x speed amp. Assuming he spawns in with that speed and that gets equalized.

To prevent an instantaneous blitz, of course.

He's only 8-A with Jeahbongchim so yeah the speed gets equalized

Anyways what do ruby and weiss do

Ruby Rose has a semblance (magic power thing) where she turns into roses and it increases her speed (it actually works at the molecular level apparently). She can use it to dodge stuff and travel places very fast. Other than that she is a scythe wielder who is pretty good at scythery. Also, her scythe turns into a sniper rifle and she can use that to fire elemental explosion bullets. She can also duplicate herself and fly.

Weiss Schnee has a semblance which allows her to place a bunch of magical glyphs. She can use the glyphs to create stepping stones for her momentum or imbue them with magic. Usually used to shoot ice projectiles and make ice constructs and turn things into ice. She also has time dilation glyphs which greatly increase the speed of whoever is on them by making time move faster for them. So she can basically use that to amplify herself. She can also use her glyphs to summon goons to fight with her. Her gravity glyphs can also give her a speed amp by pushing her with a lot of force.

probably more stuff too but yeah.

Anyways what do ruby and weiss do
Ruby: Master scythe wielder and sniper and her weapon is a combination of both, and she is skilled enough in combat to use her gun in CQC and even has an entire fighting style based around doing so, using the recoil of her rifle to propel her and change directions on a dime. She is an expert in combat analysis, being able to look at a person's weapon for no more than a few seconds, identify all of its properties and mechanics, figure out her opponent's fighting style from said weapon, and determine any weaknesses or flaws the weapon or her opponent might have. She has elemental Dust bullets, fire (Explodes and sets anything near it on fire), ice (encases anyone near the point of impact in ice durable enough that Ruby herself cannot break it), lightning (induces paralysis by creating an area of chain lightning around the point of impact), and gravity (significantly more powerful than her other bullets and her own physical AP, and has an AoE around the bullet itself which can inflict damage to the target even if they dodge it just by passing by them). She is able to manipulate her own soul for offense and defense, generating a passive full-body forcefield around herself as well as her weapon, enhancing her senses, granting her regeneration, and providing an extremely strong resistance to heat and cold. She can also weaponize her soul as a Semblance, with her Semblance being Petal Burst, which allows her to break herself down on a molecular level, as well as anything and anyone she is in contact with or comes in contact with, becoming an intangible cloud of scattered molecules. While in this state she becomes significantly faster, enough so to speedblitz people who can normally match her in speed and perceiving the world around her as moving in slow motion, as well as gaining the ability to fly and separate herself into multiple clouds to avoid attacks and disorient opponents, and she can enter and exit this state at will, with it being an instinctive response to do so. She can also use it as an attack, creating slipstreams and tornadoes while in this state, which have enough power to send people comparable to herself in power and strength flying. Of note though, she has a limited amount of Aura, and using her Semblance drains small amounts of it each time, though it slowly regenerates in combat and can be mitigated entirely though the various Aura restorative items she carries. There is some other stuff too like the Silver Eyes, but thats unlikely to come up or even be useful in this battle.

Weiss: Master swordsman and the 'caster' of the team. Her weapon is a rapier which contains numerous types of Dust, allowing her to access a wide variety of elemental abilities. Though she tends to favor ice, she also has access to fire (Allows her to project fireballs, waves of fire, superheat her sword to the temperature of a welding torch, or imbue her sword with fire to exlpode on contact with an oppnent's weapon), lightning (Allows her to project bolts of electricity), wind (Allows her to create localized burts of wind and small tornadoes), gravity (Primatily used in conjunction with her semblance, explained below), light (Allows her to fire beams of light and create hard light forcefields), earth (Allows her to create barriers of stone), and plant. With Ice Dust however she is significantly more versatile, allowing her to freely manpulate ice in the surrounding area, as well as flash freezing water and to a lesser extent generating snow and mist to obscure an opponent's vision. She can project shards of ice, generate swords out of ice, make spontaneous walls and spikes on any surface, encase opponents in ice, cover the ground in ice, and augment projectile attacks so that they explode into ice crystals on impact. She can also imbue her sword with ice, causing her to instantly incase whatever or whoever she strikes or parries with it in a block of ice, and if this attack is used on the ground it instead generates a localized field of ice that harms anyone nearby. She can also combine Dusts to an extent, most notably combining Ice and Light to project lasers and homing blasts of energy that freeze opponents on contact. Just like Ruby, Weiss has an Aura and a Semblance, Weiss' being Glyphs. With her Semblance, she is able to generate glyphs virtually anywhere she chooses at will, on vertical and upside down surfaces, in midair, and even on opponents. She can control the size of these glyphs, the smallest being the size of her finger and the largest being big enough to encompass an airship, she can also control the direction they face even after summoning them, and she is able to summon dozens of them at the same time. The main properties of these glyphs are the manipulation of the fundamental forces of attraction and repulsion, which are represented as white and black glyphs respectively. Attraction Glyphs pull whatever or whoever is within their field of influence, allowing weiss to stand on vertical and upside down surfaces, as well as create restraints by generating glyphs around an opponent's limbs, while Repulsion Glyphs push whatever comes in contact with them away, allowing for instantaneous changes in direction, increased velocity when jumping, and repelling opponents. Weiss can also imbue these Glyphs with Dust, most notably being able to internally freeze and shatter opponents by applying an Ice Dust Glyph to their body, being able to cause a time dilation/speed amplification effect for a person of her choosing by applying a Lightning Dust Glyph to them, and creating fields of anti-gravity or strengthened gravity by applying a Gravity Dust to the general location. She also has a type of Glyph unique to her bloodline; Summoning Glyphs. These glyphs allow Weiss to summon physical copies of monsters she has killed in the past, with her most notable being the Arma Gigas (a 15 foot tall animated suit of armor with a giant sword), the Queen Lancer (a wasp monster the size of a small plane), the Manticore (A giant winged lion), and the Giant Nevermore (A building-sized crow monster). These summons are able to semi-independently of Weiss, allowing her to fight in tandem with them and even being able to act while she is trapped in a stasis field, and she can control them from hundreds of meters away. She can control their size at will, being able to shrink them down to only a few inches in size, and she is able to make them teleport at will. She can also perform partial summons of them to use as attacks, most notably summoning the Arma Gigas' sword to use as both a shield and a weapon and the Nevermore's wings to grant her flight and an AoE projectile attack of feather spears. Of note though, she also has a limited amount of Aura, and using her Semblance drains small amounts of it each time, though it slowly regenerates in combat and can be mitigated entirely though the various Aura restorative items she carries.

Both of them also carry various equipment that allows them to heal and restore their Aura as well as heal themselves physically, including a device called the Revive Ring, which allows them to withstand a blow that would otherwise be lethal, instead restoring them to peak condition physically as well as fully restoring their Aura.

Of note, none of their abilities are magic, everything they do is a mix of soul manipulation and manipulation of natural elements.

As best girl Penny says "Do not worry, Ruby is capable of traveling at an extreme velocity from one point to another by breaking herself down to her molecular components, thus negating her mass and then reassembling them at the destination, theoretically making it possible for her to transport all of us in the same way, as mass no longer matters."

Ruby's Semblance is Petal Burst

So uhh can we get a TLDR? 😭

TL;DR

Ruby - Scythe master and sniper, very good combat-centric information analysis, elemental bullets, full body forcefield, blitz-level speed amp and flight that also turns her intangible and breaks down matter she touches on a molecular level

Weiss - Master swordsman, full body forcefield, uses a lot of elemental attacks (mostly ice), has like 40 ways to instantly freeze the opponent including one that can freeze them from the inside out (This cannot be dodged), can amp people's speeds via time dilation and trap enemies in gravity fields so they cant fight back, can summon monsters to fight alongside her

Both have equipment that heals them and lets them fight for extended periods of time without running out of energy as well as survive lethal attacks

TL;DR

Ruby - Scythe master and sniper,
How skilled exactly?
very good combat-centric information analysis,
I don’t see IA on the profile but I assume it's just a profile flaw ig. How exactly does it work?
full body forcefield,
Annoying ngl
blitz-level speed amp
Bo-bup and analytical prediction can deal with that ig.
and flight that also turns her intangible and breaks down matter she touches on a molecular level
Seems kidna broken ngl 💀

How much?
full body forcefield,
Annoying again 😭

Rip. Why is it undodgeable and does she use it in character?

Even worse.

Taking this all at face value it seems like a pretty massive stomp in the duos favor imo. Jeabongchims biggest flaw is that it has a relatively short time limit, usually in the 3-5 minute ranges after which Mori at best suffers an overwhelming amount of pain and at worst goes unconscious.
This is bad because he's fighting someone with summons and duplication as well as aura that protects them from multiple blows and intangibility, all of which heavily counter here by simply prolonging the fight.

So unless Mori completely skill-checks them AND Weiss doesn't use her unavoidable insta-win freeze attack, he's just not going to have the stamina to actually take them down.

The forcefield is a depleting health bar that scales to their stamina. The more you hit them the more exhausted they will get until their aura breaks.

SIR OVENS?
tumblr_n1m57mZ5HG1s0amwgo1_500.gif

but yeah I read that on the profile. It's problematic because it stops Mori from getting a quick acupuncture in and wastes Moris stamina even further. I feel like unless Mori completely skill slams them it'll be hard to get a hit in in general because of the other stuff like summons, duplication, general numbers advantage, and long range options. To make the first several hits useless due to aura is a pretty big bother

I mean most of Ruby and Weiss' attacks are things Mori has dealt with before. Ruby uses elemental bullets which Mori can dodge with ease. Weiss uses elemental slashes which Mori can counter like he did with Ilpyo. Gaksu just completely screws over any form of close combat these two could do since Mori is far more flexible and can easily outmaneuver them.

Mori's greatest hurdle would be the time limit on Jeahbongchim, but even then, we saw with Jegal that Mori can keep fighting even after taking mortal injuries. Making him start with Jeahbongchim basically forces him to only use the pummeling strategy since he's not gonna have time to waste. And we all know how that's song and dance goes.

That is grossly oversimplifying what Weiss can do my guy

This seems like the biggest issue ngl. Unavoidable organ freeze is kidna an instant gg
To be fair its only the one application that freezes internally and its not something she leads with, everything else is just encasing in ice

To be fair its only the one application that freezes internally and its not something she leads with, everything else is just encasing in ice
What exactly does "not lead" mean here? Is it a "it's her second move" type thing or a "she barely ever uses it" type thing?

And what would be the standard tactics here?

How skilled exactly?/How much?
In this key they are both recognized as some of the most skilled warriors on the planet, above people who can copy entire fighting styles with a glance ala Taskmaster (they themselves cannot do this, they are just more skilled than that person). Ruby in particular is more skilled than Yang, who was able to read the fighting styles of two world class assassins to such a degree that she was able to know exactly what moves they were going to use on her at any given time, even when attacking her in tandem and from blind spots.
I don’t see IA on the profile but I assume it's just a profile flaw ig. How exactly does it work?
Very much so. I mean I pretty much broke it down in my description; She is an expert in combat analysis, being able to look at a person's weapon for no more than a few seconds, identify all of its properties and mechanics, figure out her opponent's fighting style from said weapon, and determine any weaknesses or flaws the weapon or her opponent might have. At one point she did this while in the middle of a panic attack and still managed to beat the guy in two moves by exploiting the flaws in his fighting style, and this was during the Beacon Arc when she was vastly less skilled than the current key.
Annoying ngl/Annoying again
😭
Like Ovens said it works off of health bar mechanics so he can potentially break it, but them having gear that can restore it really isnt doing Jin any favors.
Seems kidna broken ngl 💀
Not as broken as it sounds, all she can do with that matter hax is disarm people or move them around.
Rip. Why is it undodgeable and does she use it in character?
Because she summons the glyph directly on the opponent, theres no projectile to dodge, it just appears on them.

Oh yeah wait Jeahbongchim only lasts for a few minutes lmao Mori's cooked
Vytal Festival matches also lasted a few minutes each time. Ruby and Weiss will not last longer than Jeahbongchim's time limit, especially against an incredibly aggro opponent like Mori.

Mon frere, using stuff from the Beacon Arc as a frame of reference does not work here, this is the Atlas Arc key that being used. Not only can they go significantly longer than that, but they have equipment that passively and actively restores their Aura mid-combat.

Individually I don't think they would last but Mori's getting jumped here by two highly mobile opponents. He's not solidly taking them both out under a time limit unless he takes both of them out in as little blows as possible, which I don't think he really can. Ruby and Weiss also have good stamina so it's not as if they're going to just collapse from exhaustion while Mori remains unaffected.

This is a mismatch. The time limit makes it so that Mori literally cannot win, and when it runs out, he's basically going to nearly die.

A few minutes is a lot of time for MHS characters lol

Because she summons the glyph directly on the opponent, theres no projectile to dodge, it just appears on them.
Manticore was restrained and it took time for the glyphs to appear. Jegal's spikes spawn instantly inside an opponent and Mori was still beating the tar out of him despite that.

Very much so. Mori doesn't use weapons in this key and he's skilled enough to adapt to people who use fighting styles made specifically to counter his fighting style. In fact, Mori can just copy Ruby and Weiss' fighting styles too. Also Mori excels at close quarters combat which put both Ruby and Weiss at a disadvantage cause he's never not going to be in their faces slowly draining their aura.

Could you link who you're referring to and how Ruby and Weiss scale to them?

Also we're glossing over Mori's passive fear hax that is layered.

Mori doesn't use weapons in this key and he's skilled enough to adapt to people who use fighting styles made specifically to counter his fighting style. In fact, Mori can just copy Ruby and Weiss' fighting styles too. Fair if not for Weiss' ability to just encase him in ice if he gets near her

She effectively has Taskmaster's Photographic Reflexes without the downside of losing memories to copy fighting styles.

What does it do?

Yeah Mori seems to be be vastly more skilled but not to the point he'd make up for the large numbers advantage and hax gap. Them being weapon users also makes his power mimicry barely even a factor and their aura counters acupuncture.

Mori's fear hax in this key are relatively weak (pretty much baseline but I'm ngl I still haven't fully applied that to all profiles because I've been busy with other stuff) and Ruby has supernatural willpower so I don't see that doing much.

This seems to be a mismatch, Mori gets hard-countered to oblivion. Like dude made out of wood vs 2 people made out of fire type hard counter
