Chainsaw Man discussion thread

Tbh the rate of these scenes happening are just a little bit higher than part 1, we've had lots of chapters where "nothing really happens", which are buildup chapters, and chapters where lots happened, which also has like several buildup chapters in-between. Plus we're near the end, I'm expecting lots of stuff will happen from now on, Denji isn't supposed to have any moment to breathe any time soon. Like for example, in part 1 we see this and that character die here and there in really short time, the only 2 arcs where that didn't happen was pre-katana man and pre-reze transformation, the rest was shock value after shock value.

Furthermore, I think that while in part 1 you steadily have Power and Aki around at all time, so "nothing feels wrong every 2 chapters", with Denji being the only focus, now you have Asa who only has Yoru around, and Denji who only has Nayuta around, with the focus being a lot of things, you started to notice all the "wrongs" that's happening more and more than in part 1, that's why "every 1-2 chapters stuff goes incredibly wrong", and that amplified when Nayuta is gone and you realized Yoru is actually really bad news.

That's all I think about it.

I notice the many cliffhangers, especially in the latest chapters starting from the Aging Devil arc. Prior to that, there weren't as many. The way I see it, Fujimoto is uploading bits and pieces of a complete story to fit within a weekly schedule. Chainsaw Man's chaotic nature makes it prone to having crazy stuff happen left and right, and because of the manga's namesake - its very nature, chaos in this world is the norm for its characters. For example, in chapter 163, during the height of the world wide Fakesaw Man apocalypse and several wars breaking out, what crashes on the news station is a celebrity cheating scandal. Similarly, after the Falling Devil's effect on Earth, Nayuta still had to go to school the very next day. That's just the atmosphere of things. In reality, Fujimoto is pinpointing different topics and scenarios to explore in his story. It's up to the reader's comprehension to understand them and more importantly, to enjoy them.

Denji for instance, keeps falling for the same things and suffering over and over again. Notice how he acknowledges his struggles but still succumbs to them? Denji has never truly "regressed", because he never made the decision to progress in the first place. He remains stuck in his struggles because he can't bring himself to move on from them, and so far there hasn't been an epilogue strong enough to push him forward.

In the end, reading Part 2 feels very different from reading Part 1 because it demands interpretation, especially at the stage we're at now. It's like a videotape released on broken discs. You might feel a lack of connection with the series because of this writing style, and you wouldn't be wrong, it's felt washed out for me at times too. But other times, I appreciate the moments where you can clearly see what Fujimoto is trying to portray with his characters.

My advice? Go full death of the author and interpret things your own way. It'll make your experience more rewarding than trying to decode Fujimoto's exact intentions. That's my two cents.

But none were as significant as the ones that are happening in Part 2, but somehow less impactful. I think the main thing is that in Part 1 we had constant characters that were with Denji (Power and Aki), who were true friends, with new introduced characters dying quickly. Meanwhile, in Part 2 we barely have any constant character alongside Denji, since every single one that goes with him either dies or leaves him because they genuinely do not like to stay close to Denji, and thus everything feel less meaningful (With the exception of Yoshida, but well, we barely have seen anything with him).

I feel like that main problem isn't even the characters dying, but how we see Denji suffer over and over again without any progress. It's as if everyone around him was made by Fujimoto solely to ruin his life even more either intentionally or by accident

I think the reason why we notice all the wrongs is the other way around. The suffering is way too much on just Denji in part 2 and no one else. In part 1 we had Aki to correlate with Denji and have his own reasons for everything, while in part 2 everything is just around Denji.
Tbh since the Barem's plan the focus have been way more on Denji, with Nayuta dying and soon after Yoru taking more of Asa's body for herself.

The Gun Goddess is different, because only God Teirs scale to it in speed. So it would work, though I do prefer Sub-Rel considering it's closer to the MHS+ values that we already have. Consistency points.

It can, but it means that either we accept island+ csm through KE calc, or just ignore the KE and takes the speed alone. The whole sequence of Yoru seemingly unmoved when the bullet arrived already proved my calc, the problem is the KE and my sanity.

Sub-Rel Gun Devil sounds tempting, since we already have some sub-rel makima calc iirc, so it's possible just to tap a bit into that sub-rel range for Gun Boi.

tbh those are lame. Nuke Devil will represent what people feared most about a nuke, being absolute destruction, maybe with some existence erasure abilities, alongside level 1000 cancer from radiation with several messed up twists to it. Probably will be the most overpowered devil in csm, rivaling even primal fears.

Get it some Godzilla type immunity to itself and we'll get some interesting matchups.
