The Revenant Marvel Comics Discussion Thread

High-Tier and Sorcerer Supreme Tier Sorcerers have 1 layer of basic magic hax
I mean it like how we would do to other hax in the wiki.
Basic magic (1 layer: justification)
The issue is that beings with basic magic such as demons and gods can overpower low-tier sorcerers.
Overpower duo to AP is not exactly what I mean. Each hax would require 1 layer above the lower level, for example lower level magic haxes having a layer above basic magic, hell lord's haxes having layers above standard demons.
Looking at the blog there are multiple hax with "enhanced" and other stuff like that wouldn't it be a layer above the previous ones?

How do you think a Death Battle between base Thor and Superman would go? Not who you think would win, but how the video would choose to analyze things
They'd say Supes resists all of Thor's Magical abilities and scales higher via the World Forger and other stuff mentioned above.

Maybe they'd even bring up Thor canonically losing to Supes in a crossover.

Maybe they'd even bring up Thor canonically losing to Supes in a crossover.
Granted, on the flip side, they could use the part where Thor basically ko'd Supes and 2v1 him and another character for a bit in an earlier brawl if they went the direction of Thor winning.

Or go neutral and point out it being argued by characters how a rematch might go.

Tbf from my experience it seems like Thor consistently has the highest direct feats of any Marvel hero. He isn't completely reliant on chainscaling to have a high rating, he's the one everyone's trying to chainscale their characters to.
Well, Marvel writers are currently doing their best/worst to undermine Thor and wank certain other characters as much as possible. Jean Grey, Scarlet Witch, Storm, Legion, Escapade, and Wiccan, are all definitely far more powerful currently, for example. 🙏

Ms. Marvel

She is not anywhere near as wanked as the examples that I gave, and she is one of the quite few genuinely likeable and ethical Marvel Comics characters. 🙏

Also Wiccan used to be a big deal but, it's been a long time since we saw him do anything of note, as for Demiurge he was stated to be capable of changing all magic but now with G.O.D.S where we know the "God of Magic" where does that leave Demiurge?

making him defeat Elder Gods?
Mejed seemed to be a very minor elder god, Kemur was killed by the Eternity Mask, Utgard-Loki was not defeated, Toranos was at the brink of death when Thor finished him with a god-blast, and that writer also depicted Thor being defeated by regular Rigellians and Mister Hyde, completely depowered him, and had the Hulk easily defeat him whereas even the Black Panther was able to do much better, and recently Thor was also oneshotted by Godzilla in a deliberately humiliating and degrading manner, made a pro-tyranny speech during Doctor Doom's global takeover, was offhandedly tortured to death by a Celestial and slaughtered by mutants when written by Kieron Gillen, defeated by Terrax and upstaged by Iceman, his Black Winter feat is deliberately being trivialised by the current Storm writer, and so onwards, along with Brian Bendis stating that "Jews shouldn't write Thor", as if Vikings were somehow retroactively Nazis any more than the many other cultures the Nazis completely bastardised, so my impression is definitely that Marvel Comics writers in general consider Thor too politically incorrect to be allowed to exist without being systematically degraded and humiliated. 🙏

In the run Thor literally says that he is as strong as he needs to be, always holding back and that time they had a plan against which he wasn't prepared, they took him by surprise
completely depowered him
for a new run I will read where he will probably take his powers back at the end
and had the Hulk easily defeat him whereas even the Black Panther was able to do much better
that happens when fighting in groups, it's usually inconsistent, but Hulk there was overpowering everyone, then they had a rematch in Donny Cates's run of Hulk
and even recently he was also oneshotted by Godzilla in a deliberately humiliating and degrading manner
that's more showing how strong Godzilla is, in that issue Godzilla humiliates everyone, even a Celestial
made a pro-tyranny speech during Doctor Doom's global takeover,
he is a king, Doom had become the king of Midgard and from what they knew untile then he was a good king, they discovered later the horrible things he was doing
was offhandedly tortured to death by a Celestial and slaughtered by mutants when written by Kieron Gillen, defeated by Terrax and upstaged by Iceman
didn't read this
his Black Winter feat is deliberately being trivialised by the current Storm writer
that's just the author having fun at making Storm the strongest, doesn't have nothing to do with hating Thor and wanting to make him as weak as possible
with Brian Bendis stating that "Jews shouldn't write Thor", as if Vikings were somehow retroactively Nazis any more than the many other cultures the Nazis completely bastardised
who is only one writer who doesn't speak for all Marvel comics, since Immortal Thor is a really good story for Thor, which shows how morally elevated he actually is
so my impression is definitely that Marvel Comics writers in general consider Thor too politically incorrect to be allowed to exist.
which is pratically false or he wouldn't have come back in Mortal Thor. Every writer treats the characters how they want, there can be good writers who treat the characters fairly and those who do not.

Well, we have to agree to disagree then. I definitely have the sum total impression that the writers are usually undermining Thor in terms of both ethics and power level, and trying to belittle him to let other characters, particularly Storm, be wanked far beyond what their background contexts should logically allow.

Also, I do not think that it is a coincidence that Storm is wanked to high level abstract cosmic entity level at the same time that Thor is depowered to become the weakest of all Marvel superheroes. 🙏

Unironically I think that fight serves as pretty good evidence that Thor is canonically stronger than Superman.
  1. The event is canon in DC comics as it was mentioned in passing in JLA. It is also implied to be canon in Marvel comics, as in one panel showing the people who have wielded Mjolnir, Superman was shown
  2. Superman said that Thor was probably the strongest opponent he had ever fought. This would make him stronger than Doomsday and Darkseid. As he is implied to be stronger than Doomsday, and Superman said that he used his full strength against Doomsday while training with Mongul Jr., this implies that Superman was not holding back during the fight
  3. We know that Thor holds back just as much, if not more, than Superman. He is said to only use his full power against immortals, and it seems he has a rather strict definition of "immortals." In Blood and Thunder, when Thor was bloodlusted and thus not holding back, he curbstomped Silver Surfer, meaning that the Thor who is shown to be relative to Silver Surfer is HEAVILY restricted. Since Thor doesn't show his full power against Silver Surfer, I doubt he'd show it against Superman, especially since they are on Earth.
  4. The two were evenly matched until Superman overpowered Thor with Mjolnir. After to final battle, Superman could no longer lift Mjolnir, with Thor saying he could do it temporarily due to great need. As we know, Thor's strength drops by 50% when not wielding Mjolnir. In an even fight where Superman doesn't usurp Thor's control over his primary weapon, I don't think Superman would have necessarily won.

Brevoort (current Marvel EiC) said on his blog that they wanted to avoid “copouts” during the fights within Avengers/JLA due to the complaints of fans from other crossovers, so he sat with Busiek (the writer), Perez (the artist), and Dan Raspler (DC editor, Brevoort’s counterpart at the time) in a room and they all simultaneously agreed that Superman would beat Thor. I think it was kind of a product of Marvel writers thinking DC operates on higher power levels in general rather than anything else, anyway.

Every time I hear that sentiment, I’m reminded of that infamous and horrible saying “Marvel is about humans trying to be gods, DC is about gods trying to be human.”

I mean, that’s what you get in trying to extract powerscaling nonsense from the stories these people are writing to begin with, it’s like Dan Jurgens (who wrote both Superman and Thor) saying that Thor would win since he has magic, even if he thinks Superman is casually “millions of times stronger” (the exact terminology used, IIRC, was “Superman is stronger than Thor in the same way that Flash is faster than Quicksilver”.)

I like Superman and DC Comics considerably better than Thor and Marvel Comics, but nevertheless, Thor has far higher raw power and versatility feats than Superman does even without the Odinforce, so outside of Superman's speed advantage, I think that Thor with the Odinforce should casually stomp Superman without plot armor, especially the Superman of the JLA/Avengers era who only had planetary feats compared to Thor's multiversal ones.

Also, other than the Flash characters, who are completely broken in terms of invincibility, the strongest Marvel Comics Superheroes seem to operate on much higher powerlevels at their peaks nowadays compared to their DC Comics counterparts. 🙏

Total change of topic here, but this is a discussion I had with my wife. If you were to create your "dream team" of Marvel superheroes from the comics, who would your six picks be? It can be a street level affair all the way up to cosmic.

My list (going for an Annihilators vibe)

Thor
Doctor Strange
Silver Surfer
Sentry
Beta Ray Bill
Hulk

Mister Fantastic

Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)
Captain America (Sam Wilson)
Shang-Chi

Those seem to be some of the most likeable Avengers candidates in my view, although I picked two too many. My apologies. 🙏

I've been through the opposite process, actually. So far, the vast majority of Thor's losses are against a) foes explicitly stated to be stronger than him or b) enemies who don't have antifeats within the story. It's also abundantly clear that he holds back massively on Earth and is only truly at full power when fighting god level opponents (he also implies that he's stronger on Asgard than anywhere else).

He also has very favorable showings against Skyfather level opponents, and they're... Really consistent. I've been shocked at how comparably statted he is to Odin, and it's even implied that he's physically superior with Odin's edge only being his hax.
I'd hope so, in my 4-ish years of reading DC and Marvel, I've found out that Marvel is a lot more consistent and "grandiose" with their scaling, no matter the category.
Like, I think Captain Marvel is accepted faster than most DC heroes based on the 1 Planck thing.
We'll have Ultron over the entire league and then some with or without this downgrade.

Idea I would like to present: we should have a page, or just use the verse page, where members can list CRTs they plan to do for the verse and give some idea of when they will be done. Since this is such a big verse with so many CRTs in progress and planned, I think this would be a good way to let others know what we are doing. This would help prevent duplicate threads, or threads that contradict each other, or just uncertainly about who is doing what and when. Perhaps it could also serve as a "sign-up sheet" to offer research help?

I'd love a little discussion thread about this

Well, we recently created a new sub-forum for organising wiki revision project collaborations. 🙏

Profectus got the ball going, but here's what I have planned:

1. Another massive P&A CRT (I honestly am not sure when this will be finished, because this will include Scarlet Witch stuff and I'm finding a lot of stuff to add for her)

2. Mystic Cosmology (Same, do not know when this will be done but I'd say I'm about half done with it)

3. A key and P&A tab for Doctor Doom's One World Under Doom key, though naturally this won't be done until the OWUD arc is concluded.

1. Damn, excellent work!

2. Any chance of a profile for God of Stories Loki?

That's helpful, but I would like to just see what everyone is planning for the verse, since so many revisions have been mentioned. Just a simple list of things in the works would be very helpful I think
