Sonic General Discussion Zone Act 1: New Frontiers

I've said it once and I'll say it again. I need the Ratchet and Clank x Sonic crossover.

So real! I love Ratchet & Clank! I miss Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper too, man!

It turns out that Sonic Generations was once intended to have completely revamped animations for the Shadow Generations release, but since this ultimately meant adding a new engine to the original game and they thought fans didn't want major changes from the original, they scrapped the idea, but have released some examples of what they made.

I think Ian's rewrite could have been made or at least planned with this reanimation in mind, but since they gave up on it, the project became much more limited.

Sega giving us our monthly routine FUMBLE. Who the hell WANTS to stay with mediocrity from 2011??

Ugh. At least Shadow Generations' portion was handled with love.

In case there are still any doubts, the new Sonic manga just like the Shadow manga is intended to be non-canon, even though they are getting translations (Previously Chris said only material with translations is supposed to be canon, but that not every translated material is canon)

At this point I don't think he's a reliable source.

I know this is hard to grasp for some but there's people that like Generations and don't like the changes the new remaster brought, especially cause the original is now delisted.

I know that people like you wouldn't mind living in the mediocrity of a game that doesn't even have passable lip-syncing, but I would prefer doubling-down and getting remastered cutscenes to at least match what the characters are saying.

WHat? The implication that Classic ate Angel Island is not enough for you?

Since 160 ronnatons is only enough to blow up an entire city on Earth, would a lowball (i say this because its way larger than our planet) of the planet's durability be High 4-C assuming it has as many cities estimated in real life? (10.000) Or is that going too far?

Also is rotational energy worth it? The planet does seem to spin somewhat fast.

Oh, I was referring to not changing the dialogue at all for the stupid rewrite, but if they had to do it then yeah lip-synching would be nice...or the option to restore the original dialogue and animations, that be nicer.

Didn't this group have a Discord server? I feel like that'd make communication far easier for certain projects.
Not afaik, at least not an official one to any capacity. Wiki DMs are a decent alternative, one could make a private group to discuss things there.

Ahhhh my bad lolol, I misunderstood.

But yes I I honestly would prefer a choice to have the OG cutscenes or reworked ones. Like how the Master Chief Collection let's you choose between new and OG graphics

Hello I have a question that should be fun as well as a power-scaling question. What is your personal head-canon for what Orbot and Cubot were doing during the time where The End was released during Sonic Frontiers? This can be whatever you want.

For me my head-canon is that they were playing pool in an underground facility and never even knew what was happening complete with an ironic conversation with them discussing when Eggman will be back coincidentally at the exact same time as The End possessed Supreme because I get a kick out of the thought that all of reality was at stake but those two were so disconnected from what was happening that they were treating it like any other day as they waited for Eggman to be back from his "probably unremarkable" -said by Orbot expedition to the Star-fall Islands.

As for my power scaling-question does anyone have any interest in calculating Sages simulations as a processing speed feat and if so would anyone have any suggestions for estimates that could be used for the amount of time Sage calculates ahead by and how long it took her to run those 1,700,050 simulations? Granted infinite speed is already accepted here so this hypothetical calc would be unnecessary but it is also something that might look nice on the verse page as a presumably ftl to mftl supporting feat. Also we could try a finite end for Sage processing Cyber Space as well just to see if that feat would surpass Spongebobs string feat or Archie Sonics all planets in the universe statement because I see some niche argument potential there.

We don't know the time of her calculating everything

We don't have an exact timeframe, but I think a minute was a reasonable timeframe. It's been a while since I saw the statement and how I came to that conclusion, I have it in an old message around here somewhere.

Problem is we don't know the extent of these calculations in regards to what a single calculation entails.

Not even sure how we'd go about that. I assume it would be a processing speed feat of sorts.

Though it would be important to note that Cyber Space had stuff from the Dodon Pa Kingdom in it, so it seems like this info-gathering extends past Earth? Idk.

As for Orbot and Cubot, they were probably busy with... laundry.

Taking statements about cyberspace literally it would contain over 10^10^10^34 bits of data, calcing a fraction of that would be huge but ultimately the calc is arbitrary.

I'm assuming this is a figure from somewhere specific?

To play Devil's Advocate: Would it be?

Even from the early past of Sonic's universe, their greatest minds make ours pale in comparison. Realistically, Dr. Eggman should be well-aware of things like the higher-limits of data with his supergenius intellect.

Also, I'm approaching this as a discussion and not a debate. I'm curious about your thoughts.

Referring to the statements on how cyberspace has a data count surpassing quantification, which I took as meaning a number higher than the largest real world numbers (since Japan canonically exists so similar history likely happened). Largest number I could find with a value was Skewes’ Number

Right, Skewes' Number. So that's where the figure came from, thanks.

I don't think it's unreasonable to say that a mind such as Eggman's should be considered a reliable source for such a statement is my main thing. He's boastful and often tunnel-visioned by his hatred often, but he IS still a scientific genius that has to work with things such as data on a day-to-day basis.

i mean some scientific geniuses are kind of that (more like they have a ego, some of them do, some of them don't)

I still think Eggman's word shouldnt be considered unreliable when it comes to surpassing his own creations rather than surpassing others. There should be a difference between these two.

It'd be silly to assume he can't surpass the stuff he himself created without the assistance of external power sources. The same way assuming an invention he creates is far weaker than a certain invention when he claims it's his strongest, it's contradictory.

basically, he can be relaible when talking about other things, except about himself
His creations in relation to his previous creations shouldn't be a part of that. At least not when it doesn't use external power sources like the Chaos Emeralds, Phantom Ruby or the Jeweled Scepter.

I mean... Modern Cyber Spaces like the ones from G.U.N in Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) already are infinite in size/data... so, does this even matter to discuss? I dunno what "beyond infinity" would even be tier wise
