Unpopular Opinions and (Friendly) Rant thread

What happened to DaReaperMan's Silver Supporter tag? I noticed you still have it but they don't have it anymore
They may have chosen not to renew again. But more likely is that AKM needs to add another month to pateron supporters on the back end. Thats my guess but I am not dareaperman so I cant speak for them.

Idk why we let children on here ngl.
Considering the crap that's happened in RVR in the past with Artorimachi_Meteoraft and other banned peeps who did wack stuff (you know what's being referred to here) I wouldn't agree to letting peeps below 15 or perhaps 18 here (I'm 23), and even then we probably need stricter measures to prevent crap like that happening
bro
why do you quadruple post
Because editing would require other peeps to reload the page to see the edits, so sending new messages is faster (again, not having real-time updates is crap for that reason)

I understand the multiple meassges is likely how your brain is processing things. But that could all be one long meassge.

I tried my best to delete all the messages seriously discussing the topic.
If I missed any, let me know.

I won't be making an official report at this time, but you're all on notice for this one.
This is the second or third time I've had to intervene in this thread. If it happens again, I may just close it tbh.

People are really salty that Solo Leveling got aoty over Frieren.
My sister and I just finished binging both seasons of it.

We thought it was overall really good, but were disappointed that there was never a proper moral conclusion to the main character's corruption, and that they kind of hand-waved it away in favor of a power fantasy.

We were at first excited to see it explore in depth how power can corrupt someone who used to be a good person.

I second this, but would add an additional point.

I'm extending an official warning to @Mahek_The_Assassin_Silent_Killer. Discussing cruel, unusual and graphic punishments with absolutely no humor of any kind and for extended periods of time ain't something we need on here. So, cease with that, and don't go doing it again any time soon.

I like chicken. (Though I really wish we get stem-cell meat into mainstream food so we can stop slaughtering animals in general.)
I mean, I sort of agree, but it's not so much about the animals eventually dying, for me. It's before that, the unethical way we force them to live before they go to slaughter, often in filth that forces them to consume antibiotics, feeding into the issue of humans becoming more and more antibiotic resistant.

Plus, the way we do livestock farming is not just inhumane and bad for our health, but also terrible for the environment as we use up and pollute massive tracts of land for them to live on, and monocrop the hell out of areas for feed grains. Finding ways to move away from our current system would be very good on multiple fronts. At least in hunting and small scale farming, ethical lives can be had before they are slaughtered. More meat alternatives and lab-grown meat products can be a game-changer.

At the same time however, I don't know enough about the energy and resources required for lab-grown meat in order to make a proper economic and ecological comparison between the two methods. My desire exists primarily due to the mistreatment of animals in our current factory farming system.

The glorious parasite-free nature of lab-grown meet will one day allow me to taste pure, undiluted chicken.

I can tell you from being in the field, we're aware. And it's one of our primary challenges to minimize those aspects.

If chicken meat arrives to you with any sort of infestation, that's an exceptional system failure, and unless you live in a very rundown place, someone is going to eat shit legally over it.

There are options to make this less of a problem without looking at alternatives, but they boil down to using more energy-efficient animals (poultry and pigs are nowhere near as intensive as ruminants, large or small), or developing even more "improved" breeds. The United States for instance has maximised meat production in such a way that it can have a relatively small cattle population while meeting both domestic and export demands.

Thing is, the more you improve a breed, maximising its potential in one specific aspect, the worse their general health becomes. They lost a lot of natural hardiness to disease and other environmental factors.

I meant raw chicken. Without the bacterial infestation of salmonella, I can consume it freely. Just to know.

I am positive that those who work at and even own these factories are well aware. I do not believe the people working in them are intentionally abusing the animals, and do try to do what they can to keep habitable conditions. Like many things like this which are bad, I feel as though the issue is with regulations. Just as when I go to get my medication, and I have a problem, I know it is not the pharmacy tech, or nurses, or doctors... it's the insurance. So here again, someone far, far above your pay grade has been told by someone above their pay grade about how to most efficiently fit the livestock in order to maximize profits. Workers are left to contend with trying to give the animals any sort of comfort.

While there are plenty of regulations that are for the better, we have to admit that some are predatory and uncaring for anything but money. This goes right along with zoning, for me... it makes sense to keep the factories apart from homes, but then we got all of this single-family-home-zoning nonsense. Then again with this topic, the antibiotics help to keep the cows healthier, but then we get all of this antibiotic resistance nonsense. It's an unfortunate event, simply following the Law of Unintended Consequences. Add capitalism, and those unintended consequences become just part of the profit machine, instead of something the people setting regulations want to change.

I simply cannot comprehend why you would desire such a thing. It does not smell nice when raw, and the texture is not very pleasant. I often get "the ick" when simply seasoning raw chicken before cooking. I have eaten sushi and enjoy very rare steak, but this... this one has me looking at you with a bit of a side-eye there, friend.
