Unpopular Opinions and (Friendly) Rant thread

Might have to throw at least 137 gorillas in that mf if I'm on team power scaling.\

I'm so moved and proud of Akuto sai—it brings me to tears. He never disappoints in any form. He perfectly embodies the very definition of what it means to be a true harem protagonist. When the girls ask who a true harem MC loves or who he loves the most, a true harem MC would always love all of them equally. And Akuto did exactly that—he made it even better, reaching beyond peak itself.

The story of him loving only one person is just an illusion, which is a fact for a GOAT like him. Also, since the manga itself—if it had continued—he would have kept picking up wives. Even the girl who wasn’t originally in his harem and had no interest in romance in the light novel ended up becoming his wife.

Okay mate, go take a shower and get to work. You’ll feel happier than just sitting there typing nonsense. You might even end up with a girlfriend and a family, just like how I’ve got Hoshino Ruby on my side. Time to move on ❤.

Not enough girls 🙃🙃.

Yo, Jerry.

Lad, you're not Rentarou

and whoever your goat is whose name
Any true harem protagonist, along with their anime, that I enjoy and love is my GOAT.
A"kuto" literally means huge dick in my native language.
Interesting, he got one of those. If you read the manga, the way they made him, it is demon king-level. "What is the name of it if you want to answer? "
Having a bunch of girls doesn’t mean you’ll love them all equally, or that they’ll all be faithful to you. Just one lap pillow is enough ❤️.
A true harem MC would respond like this: If one truly loves them all equally, then when faced with a choice like this—for example, if they have already declared their love for all of them—yet a situation arises where they must choose who they love the most, and they cannot make a choice no matter what, it proves that their love is truly equal toward all of their love interests. However, if they do choose, then it means they never loved them all equally in the first place.

As for the concept of faithfulness, I’ll borrow the words of the GOAT himself—Rentarou—who was speaking facts. As long as their love is real and equally shared, it doesn’t matter if their love interests also love other men, just as the MC loves multiple girls.

The only harem snime i like is Shuffle!
That one could have been a fun watch, but when I heard the MC ended up choosing a girl, I lost interest in continuing it about two years ago. Since the MC ultimately chose one girl, it fails as a true harem story. Instead, it turns into just another typical romance disguised as a harem—like the ones found in around 80% of anime—making it invalid in that category.
but IDK about it being the only harem media one should like 🤔
fax.
The only true harem owner is Quanxi
Wow, she is definitely valid as a true harem side character, but she’s not the main protagonist. It's taking so long for Chainsaw Man to get a season 2—I really want to see her!

Heres some hot takes

1. Harem MCs should be left to fanfiction
2. Sailor Cosmos vs Kid Buu is a toss up tbh
3. The buu saga was actually pretty good (above the cell saga imo)
4. Battle IQ matters a lot because one can use their intelligence to develop sabotaging abilities for example
5. We all need to touch grass more
6. Berserk is honestly a pretty flawed masterpiece looking back on it. Besides Guts and Griffith it seems like most characters are just... there. Zodd is a far 3rd place. I don't like the character design either and the vast majority of pop culture Berserk focuses on the golden age saga
7. Naruto's sixth opening (no boy no cry) was the best
8. Weavile is the best pokemon

Buu was a great villain, better than Cell in my opinion. Kid Buu legitimately felt like the most threatening villain up until Zamasu was introduced. Mr. Satan's involvement was genius and I liked Vegeta's sacrifice scene.

Rentarou "deserving" his harem even when taken as a joke feels like a deep reflection on many aspects of Japanese society together with isekai anime.

you might like the VN then. IIRC there is a true harem ending.
I remember seeing something like this on a website—it said that the girl, whoever she was, would not date or marry the MC (I forgot which one) unless he also dated all the other girls who loved him. So, this is a real event in the VN. lets gooo

I also have a question to determine whether the anime is worth watching. Does the anime follow the VN and is just behind in adaptation, or does it change direction and not follow the VN?
1. Harem MCs should be left to fanfiction
Since you included harem MCs in those hot takes, saying they should be left to fanfiction when they weren’t that to begin with, I will show you the power harem MCs hold.

I’ll start with anime. The strongest anime, based purely on feats from the anime itself, is Tenchi Muyo!—with its MC being a 20-dimensional, hyperversal entity. He is also undeniably a true harem protagonist.

Second, the strongest manga is Trinity Seven, which sits at tier 1A, with potential for high 1A. This tier applies to the MC, whose very essence is the concept of love itself—the essence of feelings of love—which allows him to take on all forms of women.

The strongest light novel is Demon King Daimao, sitting at high 1A+, which the MC scales to. I’ve already talked about Akuto Sai.

Finally, when it comes to games, the strongest is Persona—from Persona 3 to Persona 5. The MCs can date and have all the girls as their girlfriends, and they’re pretty much 1A characters.

So, in short, harem MCs solo your favorite anime verse, and none of these harem MCs are fanfiction. As you can see, this could have been valid if harem MCs were only from web novels, but also, one of the two 1A web novels on the wiki. One of them is essentially a true harem being—isekai at peace—but it still received a light novel and manga adaptation.

Since I've been tagged here I will respond to this.

you've basically justified harem MCs with how "strong and mega-ultra high 1-A" they are. However, I don't like harem MCs because they promote unrealistic power fantasies to young men.

also joker isn't 1-A - luffy and even kid goku of all things have outs against him - but I fear people aren't ready for that discussion

I think goku solos ngl realistically

Joker vs Kid Goku (chapter 1) is an easy one-shot for Goku, unless Ren triggers the metaverse, in which case Goku will likely need to be at least Buu Saga and up.

That is what I am lacking 😭😭😭. I need to find a harem with at least an MC at tier 0 or a girl in his harem, with them using avatars while their true form is tier 0. Even if Hoyoverse can have the some stuff as true harem, Yog will not be in anyone’s harem.

I did it because it sounds so much fun! Since this is a powerscaling site, having the strongest stuff on it is category.

Also, your reasoning: I say your reasoning applies to stories about superheroes or highly skilled protagonists in other genres—like shonen battle anime or detective thrillers, etc.—as they also promote unrealistic fantasies. So, it’s a bad reason to dislike harem MCs.

Yeah but when you read that Superman comic you know what you sign up for. He has powers and he beats others up.

Harem MCs operate on high external locus of control so to speak, like it's not up to you for someone else to fall in love with you. Also I wouldn't personally call Joker a harem MC - he's more like Aether where most of the important people in his life are women - but you do have the option to turn him into a harem protagonist if that's what you want.

It's okay in theory to pair up a guy with multiple girls at the same time but i haven't seen one piece of fiction that does it well. Take Persona 5 for example, where Kamoshida hitting on underaged high school girls is enough for Joker and co to go destroy his inner world, but Kawakami crushing on him (also an underaged high school boy) is fine. Just because the former had much more ridiculous fantasies doesn't mean the latter is ok

it takes some backstory and plot points from all the girls routes, but it is basically just one of the routes IIRC. Havent played the VN just talked to people about it.

True, most of the time, it can be that way. But I would not say it's a problem—MCs also need to face emotional moments to realize they truly love the girls or to show that they love them, rather than having a MC who shows no love for the girls and somehow still gets a harem ending purely based on a high external locus of control. Those are the types of MCs I don’t consider true harem MCs, but their anime still gets a harem ending.

I would also say there are MCs with both an external locus of control and not, like Rentarou—since he also pursues love with the girls himself. He puts in the effort and loves them back equally, even though they are fated to be together. If he didn’t, he would not have, like, 99% of them as girlfriends.

And then there are those who have no external locus of control, like manga Akuto Sai. He is the one who confesses to the girls and asks them to marry him, rather than the girls doing it or making a deal to do so—a rare thing indeed, and something I am looking for the most.

True, he can be both a harem MC and not.

I will give you some recommendations for true harem animes—you will feel like the MC deserves a harem ending, and you’ll want to see the girls happy with him due to the things they have all been through, both the MC and the girls.
Try The Fruit of Grisaia—this one is super dark.
The next one is a manhwa to read; its name is Webtoon Character Na Kang Lim.

Ok, thanks.
