Reaper, what the hell is a tournament?
A bunch of people submit characters that I then have a short debate on whether they beat the tiersetter or not, rinse and repeat until full list of 16 or 32(depending on popularity) is found, where I then set up a non-seeded tournament where I basically spin a picker wheel on who goes where for each stage of the tournament. This goes on in matches until a winner is found. What's A Tiersetter?
Instead of giving stat ranges, arbitrarily listing hax that isn't allowed, or trying to eyeball which profiles to disqualify as per usual, I'll aim to make matches fair by listing a character which each submission has to have a chance of losing to. If a character is initially argued as risking a loss to the tiersetter, but is later reasoned to be stronger in a way that'd have them consistently beat the tiersetter, they will be disqualified from the tournament. Can't really modify this from Agnaa's version in his tournament because his explanation was spot-on.The tiersetter is Warchief of the Horde Thrall. I will explain how he handles himself below.
The full list of rules ol' Reaper has for ya
- Obviously, entries need to be able to lose to Thrall. Consider this a low chance in the single digit percentiles on either side, roughly 5% because that's a good number for Agnaa's tournament so it's good for mine.
- This match against Thrall will be under SBA with speed equal assumed, thus making them start 4 kilometers away.
- The small chance of losing shouldn't be via something out of character or coincidence. AKA, if they occasionally lose against the tiersetter, they should be in. If they delete Thrall from SBA range but sometimes might pull out another hax, that doesn't count towards losing the match occasionally. This also shouldn't be via an ability with random chance.
- Might be a 7-A tournament, but if you can feasibly get beat by Thrall, that character can be in no matter if they're 10-C or 7-B.
- Characters should not be submitted that are undergoing revisions that have a non-negligible chance of impacting their matches. Don't bring a character you or someone else plans on reworking in the near future.
- My priority of submissions is as follows: New verse and user>New user same verse>Same user new verse>Same user Same Verse
Match Rules
- Matches are by SBA with speed equal unless specifically requested otherwise(For instance, prep given to one character.)
- If a match has dragged on, for the sake of the tournament I can conclude a winner. If one side is clearly winning but we can't muster 7 votes for them, I'll have them pass on.
- In the event of an Inconclusive, both characters pass on, if this happens in finals I flip a coin.
QnA
Question: How does Thrall act in battle?
Question: Can my character lose really hard to the tiersetter?Thrall from SBA range is going to be striking at the opponent, likely with earth-based attacks since that's what he can do without having literal lightning strike. Rinse and repeat until he gets close enough to start mixing in magma, air, and eventually Melee into the mix.
Question: What happens if my character is disqualified?Yes, but they may have lower priority than a character who doesn't have their skull turned into paste by Doomhammer.
In the first round, I just DQ them and pull from the backlog of characters, or if that's run out, I use one of my own. In any subsequent round though, the one they beat is brought into the fray instead.
