they lost me once they introduced the concept of weak humanoid Demon Refugees. It kind of screws with the themes of the story and characters. So was Sparda mega racist or something? I don't think that was necessarily what they were going for. These guys were just humans with horns, why wouldn't they end up in the human realm when Sparda separated the two? I thought the whole point was that all demons are more powerful yet lack empathy and intelligence. That's why Sparda, Dante, and Trish are so special. Dante chose to embrace his humanity; Trish and Sparda chose to learn to be empathetic. They're the exception, not the rule. It's called Devil MAY Cry, not Devil DOES Cry. If most demons just regularly have empathy, they're just the same as humans but stronger. It opens up so many plotholes. Pacing got real bad towards the end too. I was intrigued at first but yeah it kinda fell apart more as it went on.

The show was an insult to DMC and to the audience. First the trailers and first episode baited us in by presenting Dante as if he was the main character (and was actually even Dante), then at the end of episode 2 Lady was revealed to be better and the true protagonist, complete with her capturing Dante, and from there Dante only exists to be humiliated. Everything he does is either meaningless or a failure, Lady just outperforms him at all times, and he suffers an ultimate humiliation of being frozen at the end. Ironically the ideal being pushed here is that he's being humiliated and destroyed because he doesn't have enough power and trusts someone, a very sociopathic ideal.
The show also features the classic "America bad" which is a cliche at this point, and feels the need to throw in a "Christianity bad" since the bad guy keeps talking about the Christian God. It also has to use literal demons as an allegory for immigration and the war on terror, which if anything is an insult to the real people involved in those things.
Ugh, let's just hope this show is forgotten and we can get back to something better related to DMC, like DMC2 or the Reboot...

At least the reboot didn't make Dante weak and worthless just so an unlikable version of Lady could overshadow and humiliate him at every turn.
DMC2 wasn't a particularly good game compared to DMC as a whole. This show was worse. It wasn't a good anime compared to typical anime, and it was designed to insult both DMC and the audience. It lines up with the reboot in that regard, except that it also features even more ham fisted allegory and an anti-religious message, and also has its own version of Dante only exist so he can be humiliated and outperformed.

I've been looking at some reviews to the series so far
The profile for the people who are hyping are either YouTubers who gotta hype everything and mostly casual "I played DMC3 up to mission 11" fans, those who think Dante is the dumb wacky wohoo pizza ladiesman
They started strong but after the first wave, I can see most people who watched found it mid at best, among more experienced fans it ain't even mid
Jokes aside, DMC sounds such an easy 10/10 series to make, I really wonder what the hell they were even thinking on when they decided to take those decisions, they sound such an obvious mistake, such an unlikeable approach for Dante, for Lady, for the Demons, for the Demon World
* If Dante is going to get DSS/Force Edge and his DT, then you can't make him a fodder or play the "he's young" card, he's playing with power directly from the God Tiers, the games knew this and always respected that, Shankar missed such an easy concept as if he never touched DMC
* In no Sparda-related plot Lady can be such a useful character power wise, DMC3 Lady never showed to be on par with anything beyond Low Tier and still was vital for the story and loved by what she meant for that story, Shankar completely missed what made her great, as if he never touched DMC. If he wanted to make a series about Lady, by all means, I love her character and a more grounded DMC seen by the eyes of a trained human is actually a really awesome idea, but oof, not what they went for here
* Demon in DMC were always evil, by nature. The exceptions for that rule are rare and seen as an unlikely event at the very least. Having most of the DW being formed by weak innocent demons makes Sparda's waking up to justice as nothing really special (It only mattered more because he was OP, I guess), it makes Brad's love for the Mayor's daugher from OG Anime as completely common, and, most importantly, that whole thing about Dante saying about how having a real soul makes you different and gives you true power and all that stuff, a very special piece of Dante's true character (The depressed but lawful man behind the wacky mask) and about DMC's deeper lore, completely butchered for...immigrants allegory ? Are you serious ?
Maybe they can explain this by saying demonic power is evil, and by being weak demons with no magic power, they lack that inherent evil, this could also be based on Dante being more bloodlusted when in DT (He also said how it made him more agressive and that Sparda found a way to overcome that). That could be a way out, and I hope they go for it
* And of course, Sleepy Joe's Democracy Anti-Kilometer Squad of Freedom raiding the DW at the ending. Let's ignore the irrelevant scaling things about the 86328014573 passives in the DW, as that is genuinely pointless: In no DMC whatsoever we have demons being defeated by humans, much less an army going inside the DW for battle. DMC5 showed how Empusas can bag military casually and without damage, why ? Because the very existence of Dante and other hunters gets less important if the demons can be challenged by humans, even Rabbit's whole plan sounds such a mild thing after seeing what the US Army was capable of

Finished the anime. Liked it a lot. Seems like DMC "fans" have some problems with it, but as long as I get more seasons I don't care.
Lady's character was weirdly fun and I am glad that she didn't completely switch sides just because of a few scenes. Going to have to work more for redemption, and shows that not always years of trauma and beliefs can be overturned in a few days.
Dante was great, as usualy my favorite part in DMC stuff.
The Rabbit is a really good antagonist, IMO. I think episode 6 was absolutely amazing in terms of giving backstory to him and Lady. Him>Sukuna, AFO, Meruem, and etc.
Though I was a bit tired of the Vice President as it continued, but I kind of expected him to be evil and ruthless. His constant preaching, ngl, is painfully fake and seems like he only uses religion more now that there's a confirmation of demons, which the general populace would buy into.
Anyway, on top of a good story, it had amazing animation and I didn't care about the CGI. Seems like people are overexaggerating, since it was actually pretty good. Maybe a bit less science stuff could have been included, but it's an alternative universe so it's whatever.
This series does seem on the lower end of power, though I wonder if there will be some proper tier 2 stuff since it seems like Sparda was able to seperate the two worlds. (Wouldn't be surprised if it's treated as hax though.)
Enzo the GOAT BTW.
It has several "laugh out loud" moments, which I appreciated. Both expected and unexpected.
Anyway, easily 8/10 if not 8.5/10 season. Hoping for S2.

Don't really agree with the beginning about having unrealistic expectations and a bootleg universe on Dante's side (certainly not on Vergils) but rest of it is correct. If anything the anime exceeded my expectations since I thought it would be far worse.

I liked the style tbh, it looked nice and was smoothly animated. Was actually really glad they didn't hold back too much on the gore. Especially when half of Dantes face was blown off.

@StorytellingDemonKing oddly, Shankar says its not bootleg, but the series clearly is rather then following the source as he says here, so his word vs his work here doesnt adds up

Also, just wondering, can the feat of Dante saving the diner people from a truck be calculated? Also when being raided by hunters he casually picked up a steel beam and threw it.

Steel Beam yes, the truck being thrown I don't think so, at least, I don't know a method to calc it as a truck being thrown doesn't have a time frame... hm, I guess I can use the Ice cream falling, but I don't know how consistent it is, and if I use it it would prob not give a high result

The steel beam might be kinda useless considering Dante is shown clashing and holding his own against the Mutated White Rabbit who has some feats that eyeballing look like Class K to M
I think even in the diner fight he crushes concrete while trying to free himself from Plasma
Some other demons like Echidna can instantly crush an elevator door so might be worth calcing it
