Sonic General Discussion Zone Act 1: New Frontiers

Taking place in the same verse would be jaw-droppingly cool, especially since I have the nostalgia factor from playing the first 5 or so titles (OG, Going Commando, Deadlocked, Up Your Arsenal, and Size Matters iirc). Would make sense considering "alien" companies (Dodon Pa Motors) exists and are pretty successful all things considered.

Wait, it CANONICALLY takes place decades after the previous installment? So Ratchey is like... in his late 30s/early 40s?? How the hell did THAT work?
I believe mid-thirties. The first title has him at 15, by Jak X/Deadlocked he’s 18 (stated directly), the Future Series has 2 Years between it and Nefarious Asteroid Crash and All 4 One, (Ratchet also said it had been a year since he had seen Clank), and then after that it’s nebulous until Rift Apart, which established an uncertain 10-20 years gap as essentially retired Veterans. He’s been growing across the franchise as a protagonist—He’s more similar to Kratos in this way, developing and changing, than mascots like Sonic or Mario, who are age-locked outside of vague references to a younger iterations of themselves.

So in my eyes, the best way to do it is have Ratchet finish his Original and Future Sagas Pre-Classic Era, and then have Rift Apart take place in the Modern Era. Being-bang-boom, seamless integration. Sonic goes to see what’s up with that recent Multiversal Crisis, he finds it’s solved, and Earth finds that there’s an older, cocksure hero on the other side of the Universe with tons of gadgets that can bolster the Resistance/Restoration. (This helps in making characters more capable whilst also creating limits that can be written around.)

Suddenly Eggman and Nefarious team-up, before the inevitable collapse of the team as they fight both their respective protags. Additionally, Ratchet operates as a much more interesting, developed, and capable Rookie as a hero, so gameplay wise you can literally engage in both segments if you had a totally legit crossover game rather than a racing one.

Focusing on just the racing, though, Ratchet STILL fits. He has his own vehicle from Jak’s racing game, has plenty of ships and pod-racer vehicles (meaning he can do cars, planes, and boat), has his own hoverboard set (for his Extreme Gear option), and has his own weapons to include into the item pool for wacky racing fun.

Imagine a Sheepinator, for example. Single use blasts that turn an opponent into a slower (but floatier) sheep. Or maybe the RYNO, which can do a multi-hit. Or the Black Hole Bombs, or the Armors (for example, Ratchet has one that can transfer damage into another reality and store the damage for physical attacks. Slap that on a car. Get hit with a blue shell, absorb blue shell damage, ram into opposition, profit.)

Etc. Etc.

And that’s not including what CLANK has to offer as a machine-man-Zoni thing. Infinite options.

Shouldn't this be Sealing rather than Paralysis Inducement? Also, wouldn't it have Status Effect Inducement? Tails got dizzy and Metal Sonic was left stunned after being freed, Sonic would gain a resistance to status effect inducement due to getting out just fine and a limited resistance to paralysis/sealing due to being able to slightly move his head when Tails and Metal Sonic were unable to.

Why Sonic and Friends scale to what they did in Sonic Shuffle, ins't that game events tclsTechmicollya dream?

I think it's "isn't that game's events technically a dream?"
If that's the case, the dreams don't exactly detract from the feats since Sonic and co were able to directly interact with things in tyhe dreams and these dreams had real consequences. Especially the destruction of Maginaryworld.

Because Dreams manifest into/take part in reality in the Sonic series, considering they allocate to a realm within the multiverse that could technically be travelled to (albeit through highly technological or mystical means).

As Zoth also said, it also had VERY REAL consequences should they have failed.

Yeah, you’re right. I guess we just missed that part.

If it was literally anyone else saying this I would take it as sarcasm, but you're one of the most earnest people I've ever interacted with.
Wow, genuinely touched. I appreciate the sentiment my dude, seriously, I would like to see you stay (but obviously don't feel obligated over 1 person lol). Maybe at least keep the account intact?
Thank you!
If you seriously are leaving, thank you. It's been more than a pleasure, it's been an honor. Your bluntness even when the majority disagree is refteshing, and I'll miss your presence here

Man with all of these dream-related things in Sonic recently, I wonder if NiGHTS is having fun with all of the extra space to bum around in.

Lmao valid point.

We NEED a sequel man, maybe even make his return a full Sonic x NiGHTS crossover with legitimate story content to incentivize new fans and entice old ones. I personally think it's better to incorporate NiGHTS at the risk of losing his independent identity and breathe new life into it than to let it rot in obscurity.

After Balan Wonderworld, might be difficult. I hope NiGHTS gets some love without just being the "In the Sonic World so it's just Sonic at that point"-ism.

Yeah, I think there can be a reasonable distinguisher to keep NiGHTS with a strong identity. For example, we better not get a sequel that has Sonic Rings and Dash Panels floating around.

Would love to see more stuff for other niche Sega properties. Even if it won't sell as much, some love to them would be awesome. NiGHTS and Ristar would be cool to have modern renditions of.

I guess so, unless users of ME not being able to tap into its power applies to their non-super form amps too.

Very specific NiGHTS Chaos Emerald update: Right now, NiGHTS is given a single Emerald because of the Survival Race mode in Sonic Riders. It's the light-blue Emerald specifically. However, there's actually multiple Emeralds available in this mode, totaling 5. So, NiGHTS would have access to the light-blue, green, pink, red, and yellow Chaos Emeralds.

(I assume the pink can stand in for purple, when comparing to some other appearances of the Chaos Emeralds. Also, this means NiGHTS is only missing the white and dark-blue Emeralds, to have all 7.) I can share the 5 screenshots through Discord, if anyone is wanting evidence.

This has me speculating something that isn't VS-related. So, not counting the two SEGA tracks in Riders 1, there are 14 total tracks in the game. 7 of them match each other, so they could've had all 7 Emeralds in the Survival Race mode, but didn't.

In the final game, to win the mode, you need to get the Emerald and carry it through 5 total gates. Doing that ends the match, the first to 5 wins it. I speculate it was different in development. Instead of the Emerald staying the same and staying on the person who carried it through the gate, it would change. When one Emerald is carried through the gate, another spawns in for the character to collect, and carry that one through a gate. Riders 1 lets you change some rules of game modes, such as how long it lasts, so maybe the amount of Emerald in a race could be changed at some point, with 5 being the default. So, instead of first to 5, only 5 total gates could be passed across all players, and whoever had passed an Emerald through the most times would win. So, the dark-blue and white Emeralds could have been cut in development when plans for the mode changed. I'm assuming their assets weren't finalized yet, because they'd have good reason to be used at least once somewhere in the 18 playable tracks in this mode. SEGA Carnival and SEGA Illusion even have mismatched Emeralds, being red and yellow, which are already used on other tracks. If my speculation could be correct, then the finalized assets of the dark-blue and white Emeralds could have gone there.

Also the Emeralds in the Survival Race and the ones in the Story Mode seem to use different models and textures, so I don't think those had much to do with each other, perhaps.

Random question but…
How would everyone feel about Sonic and SEGA franchises having a shared universe (Or multiverse)?

I know verses like NiGHTS are somewhat canon but would anyone else like other verses to be canon?

Bayonetta, Sonic, SMT, and DC sharing a cosmology would become funny, so that

But yeah, I do like the idea. It seems fun.

First of all: #SHAKEISASAINT for pulling me out of Perdition with his kind words.
Dude!! HOORAY!

It's not a problem at all, Issen, I genuinely meant everything I said! I'm glad you decided to give being here some extra time, and I hope peace of mind follows you to keep hanging on!
Second of all: This much downplay in one debate is gonna cause a singularity.

Thank goodness that it's about Mega Man. Death Battle inviting Ian to discuss Sonic would've been the biggest middle finger to this fandom, everybody takes Flynn's words as fully authoritative.

Good for Ian, though. As much as I meme on the guy, I don't want to see him in a bad spot. Maybe this will give him some opportunities down the line.

SMT, just to see the fallout in the powerscaling community and all the seethe.

As a more serious answer, definitely Bayonetta as my first pick. Persona would be kinda cool too. Other kiddie Sega properties (NiGHTS, Billy Hatcher, Samba de Amigo) I headcanon to be part of the Sonic multiverse already, seems more fitting that way.

On the other hand, it would've been funny if Ian hinted that the Chaos Emeralds>>>Darkseid. It would throw a massive wrench in DB's scaling agenda.

Nothing ever happens.
