Explosion vs Destruction

Consider an explosion occur, the explosion created a massive hole in a mountain.

The question is, which one is more favourable to calculate? The destructive capacity (the hole in the mountain), or the explosion (consider we know all the measurements) using the explosion yield Calculations? Or maybe some other stuff.

Usually the destructive capacity is more accurate to use as it gives us a clearer picture of the amount of destruction caused. If there is no way to measure the appropriate stuff however, we shift to explosive radius as a low-end.

If that's the low end, what would the mid and high end be?
