It was because MUI Goku vs Broly/Gogeta and Jiren vs Broly/Gogeta kept ending up in really toxic threads from what I remember. Ask the staff members if you want confirmation.

Well he kind of does know beerus' power, he fought jiren who is considered in like all of dragon ball media as above the GoDs so goku knows that and probably compared beerus to what he saw from jiren. And btw beerus is weaker than belmod who is weaker than jiren but I digress. We can then use the scale I just gave you to properly compare the two, in fact vsbw uses this exact scaling.
