Popeye vs Elder Princess Shroob

What's stopping Elder Princess Shroob from turning Popeye into a shroob mushroom?

Wouldnt Popeye's shapeshifting counter that transmutation? I mean he did turn himself into a rock and a tire before

Insecurity97

Probably depends.

If you can shapeshift into a different person but someone turns you into an apple, you aren't coming back.

If you can shapesift into an inanimate object you can probably shapeshift back into a human after becoming an apple.

So yeah Popeye can come back from Transmute

Does he require to be able to think to shapeshift? Cause otherwise being an inanimate mushroom kinda nopes that.

It depends on how the transmutation and shapeshifting work. Whether the transmutation kills the person, leaves them asleep/unconscious, or keeps them conscious. It also depends on what exactly they are turned into, what they can shapeshift into, and if they need to think for it to happen. Popeye can turn into objects and back, and does not need to be conscious for it to work, so only really powerful forms of transmutation would work on him.

Shape shifting still doesn't stop transmutation in this case since Popeye will be turned into something else he wasn't going to be.

What type of transmutation does EPS have? If it's Magic based, Popeye is extremely resistant to magic, and if it's a beam attack he could even punch it right back at her. If it's not, Popeye's shapeshifting is extremely good (He can turn into inorganic materials like rocks, bricks, puddles of goo, and a sub. As well as different animals/people.) and he does have some resistance to involuntary shapeshifting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIwUpvf2jXY) So EPS's transmutation definately helps, but I doubt it would be enough of an insta-win move to change the outcome much. I'm still rooting for the sailor...

It's shown as a bolt, I don't think it's magic based though.

I'll add this to EPS' profile but you'll need to request it to be added to Popeye's.

If it's an energy bolt, couldn't Pops just sock it back at her? I mean, he's punched lightning bolts, laser beams, fire blasts, and other non-physical projectiles away before. It being magic it just icing on the cake...

Touching it would turn him into a shroom. So while I'm sure he could interact with it, that would actually be bad for him to do.

After taking spinach, he is able to punch back transmutation based magic without being transformed by touching it. In Fistic Mystic, after taking spinach, he punched back a transmutation spell Bluto tried to use on him.

I hate to repeat myself, but I think it might be necessary here.

That's a very, very weak "resistance" to transmutation. It displays his face turning red and then into a beet, which looks more like a gag. But even ignoring that, it isn't on the same level as Shroobs. While he reverted his head back (with some difficulty), Elder Shroob transmutes your enire body. So I fail to see how he is going to bypass this.

1. It being a "gag" is a lousy excuse. But ignoring that, let's put the pieces together: He can turn parts of his body, or his whole body into inanimate objects at will. He can forcibly change his body back if Transmutated. And if Shroobs bolt is Magical, then Popeye just laughs it off. Even if we assume that her attacks aren't magical, Popeye wouldn't be permanently defeated by her blasts, he could eventually change his body back.

2. Elder Princess Shroob usually only resorts to possession once she's been killed and turned into a ghost. They never say she can do that whenever she wants in the game...

3. Does EPS resist Popeye just socking her out of the cartoon into an empty void? Cause I have a sneaking feeling Pops would do that way before he gets Possessed/Transmuted.

1. No, shape-shifting =/= resisting transmutation at all. Yes he's turned his own body into random objects, but that doesn't automatically give him the ability to revert any other types of transmutation, because the difference here is he's using his own ability to switch and switch back. Where as in this case, he gets forcefully turned into a different object. You can even see in that scene he struggles to do so. But even then, that was only his head, not his entire body.

2. Which I never claimed, but if Popeye somehow kills her then possession is another way to win.

3. An issue I have about Popeye is his various effects when hitting someone. On one scene, when he punched people, they turned into coins. On another scene, people were punched away from the animation. Or sometimes his punches just don't have any effects and just harm the opponent. So which is it? Which effect will happen if Popeye punches her because this is quite inconsistent. Sometimes his punches make something happen. And sometimes they don't.
