After messing around in the latest DBS thread with Forneverworld's masterpiece...

Okay but seriously this type of thread is long overdue. It's even already been brought up on FC/OC so naturally, this should follow. The OP there is pretty much the same concerns as this post will have, but if you don't want to click that link, here is what he wrote:

I run into some profiles (and threads) and I get hit with loud music just to have to find the thing at the bottom to pause it so I can unmute my computer. (notably, Shifuto, though not the loudest example) I feel like this needs to be addressed. (Also on JBW, I will probably make a thread there)
I have no problem with people linking Youtube videos for themes, just a problem with people throwing loud music right on the profile.

I do feel like some guideline has to be made (such as you should put the soundcloud control at the top)

My best solution, besides you just muting the tab that VSB's in would be to make giving both a visible height and width to soundcloud players mandatory if you want music on a thread, profile, or wall, so viewers can simply turn it off.

  • Preferably, if there is music being autoplayed it should only be in OP, and in the case of a profile, at the top of it. In the case of a thread getting hundreds of replies people won't have to sift through them to pause the player.
To add on to this, perhaps we can also restrict the option to auto play. Although this is not much an issue as actually making the player visible. So I'm willing to let this part go, if it turns out to not be much a problem.

I'm concerned the least with personal profiles, fun and games threads, and blogs, but message walls and versus threads are where this issue is most apparent, and where I believe these solutions should be most applied.
 
This shouldn't be a problem with user profiles at all, since it's a purely optional and personalized page.

The problem for me comes mainly from VS Threads or Message Walls.
 
I Agree 100%. If you want to have music on your profile is fine. But keep it away from threads and message walls or at least make the player visible so people can mute it.
 
Profiles are personal

But being forced to listen to garbage OSTs in versus threads takes a few weeks off my lifespan
 
VS threads likely but message and user are personal so that should be left alone tbh but if we can mute it then its better to mute
 
I agree with this. Don't have the song automatically playing. It's annoying. For personal files, it is perfectly fine. Anything else, no.
 
I don't ususally deal with this since I'm on my phone most of the time but if it's for others comfort then I agree
 
So: -Personal profiles are fine

-Walls should at least have the player visible. Its possible to make a visible soundcloud player non obstructive if you want a greeting alongside it, see my wall. Rn im at school but when I have the time I can provide the source code for how to do that

-Vs threads should not have it or it should only be in OP, with it being visible.

How bout this? Looks like we have a consensus on user pages and the msg wall but not vs threads

I retract my statement about not taking sides. Now that I've had a better idea by hearing other's opinions, I agree with Fll's suggestion, it looks like having the soundcloud players visible is the best choice. While the music is a possible option, if people don't want the music, they can pause them instead.
 
I agree

It would be nice if I didn't get my face torned apart by a hundred decibels of some random OST that's unrelated and have a terrible sense of security before forgetting to mute my tabs. As a headphone user, I've been blasted... a numerous amount, which is pretty pathetic.

If users want their VS threads to have music, they can just link the theme/post the soundcloud allowing others to choose whatever they want to do.

I believe it's the best option. Better than restricting it entirely
 
Seems reasonable, but how do I do it in a way where it just turns on via button?
 
Is there away to set it where it plays if a button of some sort is clicked?
