Why joules?

A joule is a unit of energy whilst Newton is a unit of force. Like you wouldn't calculate the power of a lightning bolt through the energy required to move something right?

To clarify further, newtons are more like weight. Kg calculates mass whilst Newtons calculate the weight that mass has under Earth's gravity.
On the other hand, Joules are about energy, work. It is an action rather than a passive effect...I think? In short is far better to use when we calculate things like interplanetary explosions and such.
Why not use both? It's pointless and would only cause unnecessary confusion. People sometimes still fail to understand that a ton of force isn't the same as a ton of TNT, would be weird if we made it even more confusing.
