This is something that I have been thinking about for awhile.

Which on of these series would you rather.

-A series that has terrible writing, but is still extremely fun to watch or read.

- A series that is extremely well written, however it is horribly dull.

Of course we want a great middleground, however, if you had to choose which one would you rather and why?

Depends from the genre. For something like a game I would prefer the former simply because in my book a boring game is a game not worth its price.

For something like a book i'd prefer the second one (although it's really a lesser evil)

It seems weird to me to separate "Fun" and "Good Writing". Because if your series is "horribly dull", then it's not well written.

Though generally, I'd rather take the latter. While some dumb fun can be, well, occasionally, the fun factor will gradually fade as the series progress. What made it fun will be eventually overshadowed by how terrible the writing is. It's far easier to keep a reader engaged with good writing.

Fun =/= Good Writing.

I should likely explain what I mean by "writing". I mean simply to plot, absence or plethora of PIS, BS power ups, etc.

A horrible written series can still be fun to watch. For example, (while I know you hate it) Dragon Ball Super is not a good written series, however, I still consider it extremely fun to watch, despite the writing flaws.

First option.

Theirs an episode of Adventure Time that's incredibly well written and has a great hidden message in its plot, but it is so dull that I refuse to watch it again, while theirs another episode that has no real message and is just plain fun and doesn't take itself seriously, while still tells a good story. Guess which episode I prefer?

Second of course has merit. The Peanuts isn't exactly fast paced, silly fun, but it's written with lots of nuance and character that I enjoy reading it.

But that's just "So bad, it's good". I don't think much people think that Dragon Ball is so bad that it's become enjoyable to see how bad it is.

Nah, "so bad, it's good" is something so awful it becomes entertaining. A fun, silly series doesn't have to fall into that category. Epic Battle Fantasy isn't exactly a masterpiece of story telling, but it's a very fun series that always puts a smile on my face.

I mean The Room mentioned by Bre8k. Even with how much I dislike DBS, it's certainly not The Room levels of bad.

What are you talking about? Nothing I said implied "It's so bad, It's good". What I said was that despite the bad writing, the series has other things that make it fun to watch.

I remember Season 6 of Adventure Time Had the former problem in that a lot of the episodes tried to have a deep message in it but just weren't really fun or entertaining imo thank god season 7 and onward fixed that problem
