Star Wars - UP Durability

In the canon novel Heir to the Jedi, R2-D2 was damaged by (but survived) a heavy blaster pistol shot. In the Return of the Jedi movie, he was damaged by (but survived again) a blaster carbine shot. Chopper has survived (albeit with damage) a blaster rifle shot and a blow from an enraged E-XD Infiltrator Droid. In the canon Chewbacca comics, some unnamed Astromech was disabled by but survived a blaster carbine shot.

^ As you can see, astormechs are consistently 9-A in durability. That feat you've linked is just plain Plot-Induced Stupidity.
