So something got me thinking about speed and how it can only be equalised to an extent that it breaks the fight.

  • Q1) How can we equalise speed for characters that can't move? This either breaks their character by making them able to move, or it renders the fight one sided/broken.
    • Example 1: Character A can't move, Character B is Subsonic. Speed is equal so Character A and B can't move and neither can harm each other forever.
    • Example 2: Character A can't move, Character B is Subsonic. Speed is equal so Character A and B can't move, but due to character A's ranged abilities and character B's lack thereof, makes it become a stomp.
  • Q2) How can vehicles and such have equal speed since it makes no sense for them to be travelling at ridiculously low speeds
    • Example 1: K.I.T.T is facing someone who is only peak human in speed. It makes sense that his reactions are lowered, but making him only be able to travel at ridiculously low speeds makes no sense since he's a car.
    • Example 2: Apply the previous scenario, but to an AC-130 and other aircraft, it would be impossible for them to fly.
I hope I haven't thought about things too hard here, I was just thinking up ideas that could cause problems in future matches.

How would a non-moving character even fight? If it's stationary, the character would just have its reactions/combat/attack speed boosted, but it won't suddenly become able to move.

In the case of vehicules, then the opposing character gets upgraded to the vehicule's speed..?

Okay. I guess that works.

I see. I don't think I thought this part through properly. I guess that makes sense.

This made sense in my head before, but looks like I goofed up.

I don't see a reason why you can't downgrade vehicle speed, just because physics tells you it shouldn't be able to move properly if that slow.

I mean speed equal wouldn't stop us from having flash use the infinite mass punch in a match against a subsonic character.

In other words just ignore that the vehicle would usually have to be faster, it isn't different from a character for this.

For the stationary thing: Probably shouldn't be equalized. What you can equalize there is reaction speed. Stationary is less a speed stat than the lack of speed altogether and hence probably exempt from this. The point of speed equal isn't to change characters.

We had at least two discussion on how speed equal works in the past, like for example on the topic of what a technique that boosts your speed works with it or if something like a subsonic character with lightspeed attacks, retains its lightspeed attacks.

To give my opinion on the whole discussion about how speed equal works altogether: I would say that one just shouldn't think too much about how this practically is made for all cases. Speed equal is supposed to block the speed argument not change how the character fights.

So in a speed equal battle one just shouldn't make any speed related arguments and in doing so the question how exactly it works becomes pretty irrelevant for almost all cases.
