RWBY Aura

Hi i'm new here, and I want to talk about how aura works in RWBY. Or more accurately how it is being misused and abused here

Firstly, Aura is not a forcefield. I have seen many arguments on this site saying that x Char needs to bypass aura for it's ability to work. However It is armor around the body and it just weakens blows. the attack is always going through in some degree. Jaune says it is like a forcefield, not is one. Also hes not a good source for information he said this right after he learnt about aura

the RWBY trailer If i remember also says it is a forcefield, but not the correct terminology like how we think of forcefields. You can even be knocked out while still possessing aura if strong enough (Ruby got KOed by a whitefang member)

Also if RWBY characters lose their aura, their durability drops to glass cannon levels, Jaune gets cut by a tree branch without aura and I can think of no instances of a character having feats with no aura activated, yet for some reason people think they have the same dura ontop of the dura the aura gives?

They should maybe instead have split durability and attack power for having and not having aura?

thanks for reading

First off, aura is indeed a forcefield, it was described as such by pyrrha and later confirmed as such in the world of remnant episode about aura

https://youtu.be/nQS1_3QWt1Q

Aura is a barrier, thebforce of aytacks goes through but the attack itself does not, including sensations such as heat. Its the entire reason why during the vytal featival the students were allowed to use bladed weapins, live amunition, elemental weapons and attacks, and their own abilities without having any restrictions on them, and why when their aura reached anlow point they were automatically out of the match.

And no, they do not drop to glass cannon levels if their aura goes down, they can just be actually harmed as opposed to jist mitigating the attack with their aura. Yang for instance was able to beat the crap out of an ursa in her volume 4 trailer despite her aura being down, if her durability deopped to glass cannon level she would have shattered her arm when she killed it with the semblance amped punch she used.

Pyrhha never confirmed it was a forcefield she just shrugged off what jaune said with "something like that"

It can be called a forcefield but the way it works is clearly not what we call forcefields. Also with how incredibly inconsistent the rwby lore is i wluld take that with a grain of salt and i explained some more of this quote in the OP

You can have characters say it a forcefield but it is shown that it is not what we would call a forcefield. It is armor. They still take damage and feel attacks.

Another thing is if you think they are forcefields, rwby chars are experts at going entire fights without breathing, whilst talking midway

A forcefield doesn't cut off senses nor does it prevent one from breathing

Aura being being a forcefield is one of the most consistent things in rwby

The logic that no forcefields would let their user breathe is dumb.

Also, recycled air exists.
Recycled air only goes so far when their "forcefield" is only just off their skin.

@weekly yes it does. Because a proper forcefield is a wall. They feel everything

Forcefields dont cut off the user's oxygen supply otherwise basically every forcefield user in fiction would be dead of asphyxiation

What cal said. It has no set rules to avoid breking said nonexistent rules, but it still has been shown and stated to be a forcefield

This is not true. Their respective media can deal with it quite easily. Any sizeable forcefield like 3 metres cubed will have enough oxygen inside it for ages, certainly enough for use in battles. In rwby it is near impossible due to how close this "forcefield" is.

@howard maybe? This is the most likely idea so far suggested. God volume 5 was bad..

>How can people see Mirio when he activates his Quirk?

What does he have to do with anything?

>Forcefields dont cut off the user's oxygen supply otherwise basically every forcefield user in fiction would be dead of asphyxiation

My point exactly

WeeklyBattles is right, I literally had to spell this all out in the original Jonathan vs Ruby thread.

Aura does not create a forcefield, it is the forcefield. Litteral quote:

"Aura is primarily used as a defensive mechanism, passively coating the user in a protective force field."

It may not be a traditional fictional forcefield, but it still largely acts as one. I would compare it to the energy shield from Halo. The reason you can be knocked out with it is because it's skin-tight, and you would still largely absorb the force.

Not all Ruby characters become glass cannons if their aura were to shatter. As Weekly pointed out, Yang clearly kept fighting an Ursa in volume 4 with her semblance. If she had shitty durability without her aura, her arms would have broken and she would have been defenseless, but that was not the case.

Juane gets cut by a tree banch because he's a shit ass. He isn't as physically capable or skilled as the rest of the cast. You could even consider it an outlier and I wouldn't bat an eye.
