Regarding "At Least", "Likely", "Possibly", and "At Most"

This is something that is important, and is something I've been meaning to bring up for quite some time. People seem to think that in vs matches, having an "At least" makes you stronger than the rest, or having "Possibly" makes you weaker than a "Likely" or a "Solid". I'm here today to say that this is false, and people should stop bringing it up like that. Granted, "At least" would mean something if the values of two people who are incredibly close. For example, someone who is At least baseline solar system would likely be stronger than Cell. Who's solid baseline Solar System. But if someone is say, At least Planet level, like say, Link or Saitama, if the opponent was Great Ape Vegeta, the likelihood is that they'd be overpowered despite their "At least" (at least in pure AP). And finally, "Possibly", "Likely", and "At Most". Another analogy. For example, Amitabha is possibly 3-A. If someone put him up against Beerus, Beerus definitely doesn't have the AP or speed advantage, because the possibility for Amitabha is by far the strongest and fastest we can quantify on this site.

In short, the words before the tier are more for character indexing than they are for quantifying the character in a battle.

The only ones I find actually useful in a versus match are "At least" and At most" because it can spell superiority or equality to the opponent, depending on the opponent's stats. It gets thrown out the window though, if the opponent is in an unknown position in the tier range (due to lack of a calc to show for it).

It's a case-by-case basis. DMC top tiers may be "At least 3-A, likely much higher" soon because its not certain if the universe-affecting feats are backed up by equivalent fourth-dimensional power, although it is highly likely that they are. A character's rating is a method of organization foremost; the attack potency section is a more specific determining factor.

I completely agree with the situation regarding "Likely" and "Possibly". They don't affect a persons position withi that tier, just that their position i that tier may not be completely solid (I.E. A vague statement about busting a universe vs actually busting a universe).

At least and At most are a bit different though. Take Chase Young for example. In base he performed two Large Planet feats at the same time just by moving his hand and virtually all of his forms after that are big upgrades. Of course, these upgrades make him stronger to a massive, but unknown amount. While this obviously doesn't make him stronger than anyone else in his tier, it should be taken into consideration.

@Darkanine

A good example for "At most X" would be Akuma's Shin Akuma form, which is rated as "At most 6-C" for being much more potent than base, which at the higher bounds of High 7-A.

ÔåæThis.

Firstly from my experience there are two types of "At least."

1. "At least" meaning that someone is a very powerful end in their tier, which would typically make them stronger than someone who's solidly in that tier with no "At least." Though this would vary. Some people may have better feats within that tier but just didn't have an "At least" written for them.

2. "At least" meaning that someone's tier is rather unknown/hard to decipher, but there's one tier we can confidently put them in. In this case, usually it wouldn't mean someone is a high end of that tier. Rather that tier is just our best guess for them.

Secondly, I completely agree on the "Likely" vs "Possibly" discrepency and I'm kinda tired of people downplaying others in a match cause of it.

All "likely" or "possibly" means is that them being in said tier isn't entirely solid. However this is of little meaning in a VS match, where they are assumed to be in the tier. For the profile, we assume they may not be that tier. For a match we assume they are that tier. So bringing up the possibility of them not being that tier isn't relevant in that case.

I agree with a lot in this thread.

Evaluating a character's tier (outside of the general idea of where they rank) is more for information purposes and indexing.

Two characters that are in a VS match that are in the same tier should be evaluated based on their feats, powerset, etc. and thus, works via case by case basis.

In other words: people need to leave the terms alone and just work with what the characters have shown/done to decide which is more impressive/logical to go with.

The only problem I have is how overused "At least" is. Even if it's a character's best feat, people might still insist on putting it there.

It doesnt matter if it was there best feat or not what matters is how it was shown off. For example, if a character practically died doing the feat than no "at least" but if he flicked his fingers together then yeah an "at least" rating is justified.
