Just because we've never seen it doesn't mean he can't. What we do here is either take WOG or implied abilities and we make sure to understand what that implied feat is. Super Sonic is superior to Sonic who is already FTL, and the Chaos Emeralds only amplify the base traits of the user, don't give them the abilities. But that's unquantifiably stronger.

Word of god doesn't really work here. It's about as valid as One's claim that a serious attack from Saitama would destroy half the universe. We won't accept that until we see Saitama do it.
Besides, there's this thing called copyright law, and contrary to what Sonic may have said in Colors, that should stop him. It's like if Yacht Club Games up and said that Shovel Knight is stronger, faster, and more durable than Superman. You can't do that without any canon to back it up.
