And also the anime is canon. All of these events currently happening in the anime are prior to the Mujina Bandit Arc. Majority of it is for character development purposes and others is to introduce new jutsus that will appear in the later arcs. Kishimoto and Kodachi (Boruto manga writer) does have involvement in the anime. Basically both the anime and the manga are both canon, the same situation with Dragon Ball Super.
