So, Minecraft's weather is naturally strange. That comes as no surprise. But the strangest weather by far has to be the Thunderstorms for one reason and one reason only: the lightning is freaking magic.

Lightning has different effects on different creatures in Minecraft. Some have those effects listed hear, while others do not. I'm here to fix this mistake.

Mobs that have their effects listed

  • Creeper - Turns into Charged Creeper
  • Mooshroom - Switch between Red and Brown Mooshroom
Mobs that do not have their effects listed

  • Witch (Minecraft) - Can be created by lightning striking a Villager
  • Pig (Minecraft) - Turn into a Zombie Pigma
    • On a side note, I personally believe these two profiles could be combined, but work fine either way.
  • Skeleton Horse - Quote taken from Gamepedia
    • "Lightning may randomly spawn a "Skeleton Trap" Horse with a chance of 0.75―1.5% chance on Easy, 1.5―4% on Normal, and 2.8125―6.75% on Hard, depending on the regional difficulty. A player triggers the trap by moving within 10 blocks of the horse, whereupon the horse transforms into four skeletal horsemen. A non-triggered trap horse despawns after 15 minutes."

To my knowledge, there's no evidence yet to prove that piglets are replacing pigmen. They're likely just going to be two separate species

"Speaking of names, we've renamed the Zombie Pigmen to Zombified Piglins, and we're introducing a new hostile mob to Minecraft… the Piglins! Piglins live in the Nether, and are hostile to you and most other mobs. You'll also find small fortifications they've built in the Nether, called bastions."
