Howdy yall, welcome back to the Lupin updates where I question both your sanity and my own as we discover more and more absurd things about this franchise that completely spits in the face of everyone who thinks the verse is small building fodder with nothing high end in it. Now some people reading this title might be thinking "Cognitive Update? That sounds like some Persona stuff, why is it in a Lupin Update?" and my answer to that is "Persona 5 was inspired by Lupin III, so much so that the Collective Consciousness is something it did before the game's release!" (Yes, I know cognitive stuff was a thing before P5 but let me have this!)

This CRT brings to light the events of Part 4 and Part 6 of the main TV series, as both of those parts have entire season spanning plotlines revolving around the mind and how absolutely absurd both the hax and resistances are for the verse in that department. Note that while the series is highly episodic and is full of different writers, teams, and stories which tend to never intersect (or only do so in the most indirect ways possible) the franchise from Parts 4 - 6 are all part of the "Modern" part of the franchise. These parts are all connected after one-another and typically have very similar teams working on each installment, with some differences here and there. This basically means that while you are about to see some absurd things, these are basically things that are too impactful for the verse to ignore.

The sections will be split between 3 parts, "The Italian Dream", "Tomoe's Influence", and "Solutions". The Italian Dream will focus on the Part 4 events which are primary focused on hax potency, Tomoe's Influence are revolving around Part 6's events which are primarily layer based, and Solutions is simply the options I've thought of to implement these additions since....... well you'll see how deep this rabbit hole goes. Additionally, in case this wasn't obvious, this only applies to mental resistances and in no way reflects the physical stats of the characters!

Part 1: The Italian Dream (Part 4)

Within the verse there lies the existence of Memories and Dreams, memories are a constantly existing thing which still persist after death. Through these transcending memories, legends of old are capable of domently lying in the modern mind and influencing them inside of dreams. By combining the dreams of a collective consciousness, one can completely reform an entity back from the dead as if nothing happened in-between their death and the modern day. However, this only occurs if that person is revived inside of an empty body. If placed into the mind of another active person, the "Dream" of the person will act similarly to a possessive ghost and force the individual inside of a dream that they can't escape. Within dreams such as this, the implanted consciousness which is created from the data of the individual will then create a dream of their own inside of the mind (Lupin specifically is incapable of dreaming with that section being nothing but a void, hence why he's effected by this power despite normally having an immunity.)

Now that the technical stuff is out of the way, here is the "Potency" aspect of these abilities. Leonardo Da Vinci, the clone, created a super weapon utilizing the Dream of Italy in order to put all of Italy into a cognitive dream of his own. Inside of these dreams people are forced into a personalized "world" where they face Leonardo and must prove themselves superior than him. Ultimately however, all of Italy (besides the Lupin Gang, Zenigata, and Nyx) fell to Leonardo's genius and were turned into mindless drones for him to control. Though his power he is capable of manipulating, absorbing, and corrupting all the memories and dreams of the sleeper and turn them into his own personal Ressisance masterpiece, making him effectively a god capable of warping reality however he wishes inside of the mind. However, those with sufficient willpower or mental resistances are capable of overpowering his control and undoing all of his power back into it's original form resulting into his untimely ego death. This directly showcases a back and forth in in the ability, a degree in power, as well as a resistance to such tactics, so the question remains "How strong is this hax?"

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, this is going into cosmic levels no matter which direction you look. Each dream and/or memory is repeated stated to be it's own individual 世界/Sekai also known as world/universe. Because of this that basically leads into two different starting positions, assuming each memory is a pocket dimension with it's own planet or ones with their own universes, however there are signs pointing towards a bigger cosmos than just a planet. In various scenes there are light sources in the sky which are clearly meant to represent the sun though we never get to see the sun directly in them. However with Leonardo also creating a harsh desert where the blazing sun is part of the environmental hazard, since his paintings are their own pocket dimensions that could be used as evidence for memory sizes as it's the same power being used. However, more importantly, Italy's starry skies are within these memories giving way to a far higher size to these realms.

Option A: Universal Dreams - This treats each memory as it's own universe, as that's what they are referred to. Additionally as we see in Leonardo's takeover all memories are constantly active within their own separate period of time, completely cut off of any other event in a different dream/memory.

Option B: Cosmic Dreams - This basically just limits the dreams and memories to what we directly see the cosmos has, which is a starry sky.

Regardless on which option is choses, the actual end result will be absurdly high due to how many pocket dimensions we see in Leonardo's corruption which would cause insanely high results which dwarf any physical stat in the series. Even if we just limit each realm to the amount of ground area Rebecca created that would still blow everything else out of the water with just that one example, not even factoring in the other pocket dimensions. The actual math for this is something that will have to happen another time as I don't know how to count all those bubbles and any result will be a pretty big lowball as Leonardo was almost done with his control and most of his castle was already prebuilt, meaning all of the pocket dimensions Lupin sees are basically just the final building blocks in a much larger castle. With the resistances scaling to the actual whole as Rebecca was able to rapidly reconstruct it back to normal.

Part 2: Tomoe's Influence (Part 6)

Tomoe is a character which brings some very weird abilities and additional resistances to the entire verse. To start off with, everyone in the verse gains an additional cognizance for each language that they know. These different thought patterns are capable of completely negating Tomoe's influence individually, with her needing to create a stupidly complex and literally layered plan in order to bypass each and every individual resistance that each thought patterns exhibits. Under normal circumstances she could simply talk to someone normally and completely rewrite that characters personality and mind (refer to previous example) to the point of identity death.

Option A: 2 Layers for each Language - This one takes into account the additional steps Tomoe had to accomplish in order to achieve her goal, as she didn't need to simply act in a way which each mind could understand her intention but additionally needed to entice each mind with a specific thing which suited their individual taste (In Lupin's case, that was 9 different women, each of whom were specifically molded and manipulated by Tomoe to literally suit his exact taste for each language. A feat which took her about 60 years to accomplish). Additionally, once her plan was shown to had fail she immediately started to create plans to "use even more women and more powerful methods", indicating that she literally is just trying to beat Lupin via constantly increasing layer hax to create a scenario where Lupin is incapable of resisting it anymore. This is also supported by The Italian Dream as the cognitive science behind it is created through highly complex code which is in fact countless languages combined together in order to create a cognitive trigger to send his mental data and history into the mind.

Option B: 1 Layer for each Language - This simply treats each language as a single layer, ignoring anything else Tomoe or The Italian Dream needed to do and treats it as "If you bypass it then you bypass it" with there being no additional resistance to it

Tomoe's examples create additional resistances that would overlap with Leonardo's, creating a wide variety of resistances applicable to various scenarios revolving around the manipulation of the verse's cognition.

Part 3: Solutions (The Final Part)

Now, due to the sheer amount of information behind all of this and the highly complex nature of it means there are a few ways to handle this entire situation as this basically effects every single possible profile in some way/shape/form. No major paragraphs here, just different means of implementation.

Option A: A physiology page detailing all the cognitive resistances the verse has, which each character getting their own individual layers for it depending on their context and feats. (No clue what I'd name that lol)

Option B: An explanation page basically detailing everything here and listing off all the powers and resistances that come with it. (Note, this and the previous would allow for Dream variations of the characters to be created. While nobody else has been placed into her situation, basically everyone should be capable of similar or superior feats to what Rebecca did inside of The Italian Dream due to the entire main cast being above her and other characters being either on-par with her or just straight up better in these departments)

Option C: Every character just has the resistances listed down as normal and ignore any hypothetical dream selves, I personally am strongly against this one due to the sheer number of resistances this covers with this muddying up what are already going to be highly dense profiles. Resulting in overlap between different, unconnected feats.

Any updates this CRT creates will most likely be included into the more modern update instead of going to the profiles directly. The reasoning for this is due to this being more information based rather than listing off abilities and resistances to be added to the profiles (Plus the modern update is going to be updating all of them from the ground up anyway lol). This however is mainly needed for newer profiles created like Da Vinci where the abilities is highly relevant.
