I’ve seen this word thrown around a lot. Jungian Archetypes, that is and how it’s used to wank a variety of verses. But, I have no idea what these things are. So, what are Jungian Archetypes?

Basically how our mind sees stuff. It's a theory of Carl Jung that can be summed up as "psychological platonic concepts".

Needless to say, it is wanked to hell by people taking OOT explanation of it and all.

Huh, did not know that. What’s the OOT explanation?

"How our minds see stuff." seems very reductionist, to the point where you could use that to describe psychology as a whole, must less a very niche branch of it.

I am not the best person to explain it, but a fundemental concept is the collective unconscious, which is what it sounds like, the sum total of all unconscious thought. And from what I understand, archetypes are universal symbols derived from the collective unconscious.

If I had to guess, some people may try to take a statement that is true for some works that use Jungian Archetypes (that the collective unconscious influences reality) and apply it others where that isn't shown to best the case.
