There are too many loose interpretations, but it is generally seen as a 4-D scale reality altering wave. Whether or not it's an explosion all depends on interpretation and what people define as an explosion (Which has been loose). It can't entirely be compared to a nuke or TNT, but those don't mean they aren't explosions (Technically even a balloon popping or even a fart can both be described as explosions). But it is a cosmic inflation in time and space and debatably a mass separation of matter and anti-matter from nothingness + also argued to be a mass separation of positive energy and negative energy from nothingness.
