HP in manga?

Some fantasy manga and anime series, even comic or animation series, implement the use of HP stats, like video games. But, the problem is: This isn't a game mechanic—it's not a game. And, this stats a lot more in these series than they do in games because, once again, they aren't game mechanics.

So, this begs the question, does HP in these instances equate to Durability (i.e., X has more HP than Y, so they have more durability than Y) or some other universal law?

The only reason I bring this up is because in the manga Who Says Warriors Can't Be Babes?, the fact that Warrior Woman has so much more HP than the rest of her party is brought up after she intentionally drops a boulder on herself. I had to know whether this actually meant something in the grand scheme of things.

Health/Hit Points tend to represent general qualities rather than specific ones, it may represent a combination of several things. Since HP does not tend to make you immune to attacks (a character will lose health regardless of what it strike it, be a arrow or a grenade), it doesn't represent Durability most of the time, but rather Endurance (like, the amount of damage a character can endure before starting to suffer the effects of injuries, being knocked unconscious or die).
