Among characters relatively equal in stats/hax it can be very important.

However if one person is considerably stronger, faster or has better abilities then intelligence likely isn't going to help out much.

Depends, it will help to not be completely dumb like Broly and it will help even more if you don't have character flaws like arrogance - aka not being intelligent enough to go straight for the kill without messing around.

Also it will help a lot to have high intelligence too because then when people have nothing else to argue for a character in a match, some will say that they somehow win against all odds, by intelligence alone. ovo

Yeah I agree with Fate.

It also depends on what kind of intelligence one possesses. Intellect comes in different forms, and of course not every field of knowledge is very useful in combat. A genius archaeologist and historian's studies likely aren't going to help him in a fight.

It's the difference between fighting on par with an opponent with equal stats, or walking into said opponent's attacks.
Very important.
