Hello

I would like to request some help to remove inappropriate entries from the Movie characters category.

It is intended to strictly feature characters that originated in, or prominenty featured in, live-action movies (The Terminator, the Predators, Austin Powers, etcetera), but has now been cluttered with lots of other entries.

Help to remove this category from the inappropriate entries would be appreciated. If you encounter any locked pages, please inform me in this thread, and I will take care of them myself.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Can I remove Gandalf to begin with? He is a JRR Tolkien character, he's not originally from a movie. Same way Goku is not from Dragon Ball Evolution

Edit: Can you please be more specific what you mean by movie character? I could help out since I have watched quite a lot of movies. Please provie more examples. How would you classify Goku from DB evolution?

I've already removed almost everything that doesn't apply. I have left animated characters that are from standalone animated films, but removed ones from films that are merely extensions of an already existing series.

Well, that version of the character has only appeared in a live-action movie, so that would probably be acceptable. Gandalf depends on whether the profile features the book or movie version of the character. Similarly, the Christopher Reeves version of Superman is a movie character, whereas the comicbook version is not.

Both.

Also, would you rather I leave only live-action characters?

Well, on second thought, if characters originate in prominent animated feature films, such as various Disney characters, it might be best to leave them be to avoid confusion. Othervise computer-animated characters in live-action movies might have to be removed as well.

Alright. I am finishing the clean up. Only characters who are from or feature prominently in live-action and animated films will be kept.

Thank you. Technically I would personally have preferred to leave obscure anime characters such as Broly out of the category, but I suppose that it might be hard to define where to draw the line.

Sorry if this came across as a bit random ill-considered notion from myself.

So it depends on whether it accurately portrays the character in the original source?

It depends on whether the profile depicts a version of the character that originated in a feature film.

What do you think of Gandalf then? You gave example why superman and goku from movies count but not for movies which dont

Okay. Thank you for the help.

I have finished with the cleaning, and will now rewrite the category description.
Please write something specific about adaptation from other sources

Gandalf's profile compiles the movie and book versions of the character. I can also guarantee that more people know about LotR from the Peter Jackson trilogy than reading the books, so I think it's fine to have him listed under both movie and book characters.

@Azathoth Agreed.
